Gotta admit catalog titles don't really come into my radar till the price is discounted around $15.

I will NEVER again pay more than about $18 for a really good catalog title nor more than $15 for an average catalog title on Blu! My limit on REALLY good new releases is now $20. If the new release is average, I'll wait until it's down in the sub-$15 range.
Paramount: In otherwords, I won't be buying the new Star Trek movie until I can get it for $19.99 or less! If I get impatient to see it again, I can rent it for a buck! The longer I have to wait, the more likely I'll expect the price to be down in the $15 range! Do yourselves a favor and get those street prices DOWN! Get more from me now vs. less from me later! Mark

the new releases here already tend to only be 2-4 dollars more than the dvd version so cheaper can only be a good thing.

This is something that I've been practicing lately. Before I would buy catalog titles right out of the gate.

I hold off too. I don't buy most Bluray titles (unless its a must have that likely will not drop in price any time soon) until the price drops below about $15. I am certain the movie companies track their sales and how much gets sold at a certain price point. I am sure they will get it in time what the fair and most profitable pricepoint is. I like the trend of including a DVD copy with the Bluray copy as this will encourage more sales and increase the marketshare to a point where it becomes more commonplace to see Bluray titles list around $20 at release like more current DVD movies do.

The article seems about right to me. I'll usually pull the trigger on catalogs around the $15 mark.

Unfortunately, the suits at Disney have their own agenda - $$$$$.
Only the oil companies rival Disney for GREED. |
