Default UP - Ltd Ed. Luxo Jr Premium Combo Pack

Hi all...

Not sure if this has been brought up before, but I just read on DigitalBits.com that there will be a CE of Pixar's Up available for SRP $199, that includes the blu-ray version of the movie and a collectable, errrr... desk lamp?

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002LE6XR2?...89&camp=211189

Does this strike anyone else as the most ridiculous collectable item packaged into a home video release? Maybe it's just me, but Luxo Jr isn't exactly an instantly recognisable character, and for those sort of dollars (albeit much cheaper at Amazon) it seems almost as though it was a joke. The big question is whether you can actually plug it in and use it as a, errrr... desk lamp.

Is anyone actually seriously excited about paying that price for that edition?

Have you actually seen a Pixar movie? The lamp is pretty iconic, and it can hold the Pixar Blu Rays.

I maybe in the minority but I have no problem with paying that for that particular package.

I agree the character itself is iconic, especially when preceeding another Pixar gem... but there is nothing really instantly recognisable about him, when not in a Pixar context, and looks like any old desk lamp.

To me, it would be the same as releasing a CE of Office Space with a red stapler... which has meaning when placed in the context of the film, but if anyone saw it sitting on my desk, I doubt too many people would automatically think "Office Space"! Would you pay near on $200 for that?

Same goes for a white desk lamp. I will be curious to see how it houses Pixar's entire BD catalogue though!

You'd be surprised. My friend bought a Red Swingline Stapler. Many people got where it was from.

If you display that lamp, many will understand where it's from. In fact, I'd say it's more likely that people will know where it's from because of how successful Pixar is. I mean, that lamp is in their Logo.

Except the nice plaque and stand under the lamp that says Luxo Jr. I think that may let people know what it is

I almost forgot that! Definitely a must, as long as something keeps it from rolling off the table.

I'm pretty much callin' "awesome!" on this little item.

Didn't like "Up" enough to spring for the BD, however, CE or not.

Thumbs down

I agree with some other folks here. That has got to be the most ridiculous collectors item I've ever seen. I woulnd't pay $1 more for that than the standard Blu-ray.
