I might pick up the uk set. Never seen this movie despite constant pleading from other members of my family who have seen it numerous times.

I wonder if that's priced any more reasonably. I, for one, hate these super expensive sets of classic films like GWTW, Wizard of Oz, and Casablanca. I'll never buy one of these so-called collectible versions, but I'd gladly pre-order a normally packaged and normally-priced version. Can't the studios satisfy everyone by publishing both?

I'm sure Warner will release a disc-only version of "Gone With the Wind," just as they are doing with "Casablanca" in a month. It may take a little while, but they'll do it after they milk the super-deluxe edition for all it's worth.

The UK set is three disc in a normal BD case and Amazon UK lists it for about $25.

I find it hard to get too excited about a 2 disc BD set that carries an $85 msrp, even of a title this important.
Hopefully its price will come down out of the stratosphere quickly.

Derp! How did I miss that?

Hopefully the UK release will retain the extras as I have no desire to purchase the bloated US boxset.

Its like the old days of VHS.

Have the other Blu collector bundles drop price yet? If not then the UK edition might be a way to go.

-1939: Hollywood's Greatest Year: new documentary about Hollywood's watershed year narrated by Kenneth Branagh
1939 truly was the greatest year in the history of Hollywood. The number of classic films released that year is mindboggling. Just look at the Academy Awards Best Picture nominees:

    Gone With The Wind
    The Wizard of Oz
    Mr. Smith Goes To Washington
    Dark Victory
    Stagecoach
    Wuthering Heights
    Of Mice And Men
    Love Affair
    Goodbye Mr Chips
    Ninotchka

    Not to mention:

    Beau Geste
    The Hunchback of Notre Dame
    Gunga Din
    The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes
    The Hound of the Baskervilles
