FINALLY, It's Always Sunny on Blu-ray.

Now they just need to release all the seasons.

...Maybe in a limited edition Duster?

No kidding - this show doesn't look good on FX HD. Why would this be released on Blu Ray?

The previews on Hulu are in widescreen so maybe they're filming this season in HD?

Default Ugh...

I don't mean to resurrect a dead thread, but I didn't see any active threads for the 'Always Sunny' Christmas Special...

Anyway, let me preface this by saying that I'm a huge 'Always Sunny' fan. I shamelessly buy anything the gang puts out.

With that said, I purchased this yesterday and was HIGHLY disappointed. Firstly, the special is only 43 minutes (about the length of an hour long program with commercials). In addition, the show is shot in SD and stretched for 16:9 screens. The blu-ray “introduction” (which is more like a disclaimer) cites that the show is shot in SD; this is a creative choice and is not the fault of Fox Networks, blah blah blah. To aggravate me even further, the “intro” was shot in SD, almost to the point of looking like it was filmed on a Video Camcorder. Perhaps this was supposed to be funny?

Either way, I anxiously delved into watching the show, only to find that this was not nearly as funny as the weekly episodes. It was almost as if the producers decided to cash in on funny gags they came up with
Spoiler:
(Charlie biting Santa’s ear off, or a naked Frank sewn up in a couch)
and the ability to use the ‘F’ word. There were some funny scenes, sure, but nothing of the caliber of their seasonal shows.

Once I finished the special, I took a look at the sparse special features, the first of which being deleted scenes of Charlie and Mac during childhood. These scenes contain two child actors that CANNOT ACT AT ALL, and there isn’t a single punch line in any of the scenes. If this wasn’t on the ‘Always Sunny’ blu-ray, I would have otherwise thought this was a terrible Youtube video that two kids made while their parents weren’t watching.

The next special feature is a “Behind The Scenes Making Of”, which is about 10 minutes of the gang looking into the camera and making goofy faces while their counterparts are filming. While it was fun to see, there wasn’t much substance.

The final feature in this package was an ‘Always Sunny’ Christmas sing-a-long. I’m guessing the producers created this for people dropping acid while watching blu-ray special features, because this is one WEIRD sing-a-long, definitely intended to creep you out.

As I mentioned, overall I was EXTREMELY disappointed in this release; I can’t believe I was originally happy to pay $20 for it!!!

Has anyone else seen this thing? Thoughts?

I thought it was worth the 15 dollars. Charlie and Mac talking about their Christmas pasts made it worth it and then some. I wasn't looking for picture quality when I bought this. Seeing as I bought it for a whole dollar more than the DVD, I was buying it to match my collection.

isnt the new season in HD? it doesnt looked stretched to me when i watch it. surprising they did that for the special.

i watched it but certainly wouldnt pay the asking price at this point, you can get the whole season for the same price of the 2 episode time of the special its crazy.
i thought it was very funny though at least worth renting

The show is shot on 16:9 SD video. The "HD" broadcasts are widescreen, but clearly upconverted.
