Star Trek: The Next Generation Films Coming to Blu-ray

Paramount Paramount Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring 'Star Trek: The Next Generation Motion Picture Collection' to Blu-ray on September 22nd, day-and-date with the DVD release. This five-disc collection will include the films 'Star Trek VII: Generations', 'Star Trek VIII: First Contact', 'Star Trek IX: Insurrection' and 'Star Trek X: Nemesis'. For all four titles, video will be presented in 1080p AVC accompanied by 5.1 Dolby TrueHD soundtracks.
Extras for each of the releases includes:

Additionally, 'Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan', 'Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home', 'Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country', and 'Star Trek VIII: First Contact' will be released individually. The first two films were initially only available as part of the 'Star Trek: Original Motion Picture Collection, while 'First Contact' is the only "Next Generation" film to be released outside of the set.

I found Insurrection to be the weakest of the films as well, but as is the case with the original set I want them all.

Insurrection is the only one of the four that really disappointed me but I'll get the set as it includes the bonus disc. I haven't seen that one on DVD but I believe it got pretty good PQ/AQ reviews, along with First Contact and Nemesis. Generations looks pretty rough so I hope that's been cleaned up. Data's face in particular looks horrible in that movie.

I'm kinda surprised (but then again, not that surprised) that these movies are being released on DVD as a triple dip. The 2-disc special editions that came out a few years ago were pretty thorough.

I'm happy that Nemesis gets an additional two commentary tracks. Stuart Baird's track on the DVD is truly the cure for insomnia.

September is going to be one expensive month with Braveheart, Gladiator, Hero, and now these four movies coming out.

First Contact is my second favorite Trek film, the most recent one being my new favorite.

being a huge sci fi fan ive always wanted to get into star trek, but the sheer immensity of how much material their is has scared me off for years, ive never been able to figure out where to start at so that i can experience it all without missing huge chunks and pieces.

This is great news. I am a huge TNG fan. Even though I will admit a couple of them were not all that great, especially Nemesis.

Maybe this is a sign Paramount will eventually take the steps to release the TNG series on blu-Ray. And I mean release the shows in true blu-ray, including the special effects shots.

First Contact is the only one I'm interested in, but not enough to buy this set. I'll wait for it to come out separately.
