Yeah, but the total sales is still in favor of DVDs with a 90% average, compared to only 10% for Blu-rays (according to The Digital Bits).

even if dvds are slipping, 90% of the population still uses em and a lot of them are even scared off or just not interested in blu-ray. dvds will probably still be around and doing well for another few years if not longer.

Let the BD marketing wheel SPIN. Come on now even Walmart has (surprisingly) scaled back on their BD display which wasn't much to begin with. DVDs still continues to dominate and I mean dominate the video physical storage media market. End of story.

All the Wal-Marts in my area have all but given up on Blu-Ray it seems. There's one tiny rack with a few releases, but nothing really new anymore.

Same here with my local Wal-Marts in Cincy. Maybe there will be more of a wider selection as the holidays get closer???

I think Wal-Mart is starting to realize their average clientele isn't buying BD. They're sticking to the 2 for $10 bins and cheap stuff on standard DVD.

I have seen it mixed. Here in Canada, a Wal-Mart close to home has a not bad selection including an under $15.00 bin where a bigger Wal-Mart in the big city has almost nothing. I was thinking at the time it was just a bad stock day / week or whatever.

Best Buy and Future Shop have a lot of overpriced Blu-rays but a few good deals too...

Both of these have pretty much stopped carrying the new Criterion releases here as well. The only deals I ever find at either place are still cheaper via eBay.

The thing that drives me crazy about Walmart is they have a huge wall full of HD TVs, but they're not selling anything you can play on those TVs.

The Walmart by me has a massive HD TV section and Blu-ray demos going on to show what HD can do, and then you look around and you see a tiny Blu-ray section stuck in cardboard shelving under the TVs. Doesn't make any sense to me at all.

Come on now: you and a few other posters are making it sound like some 'definitive' WalMart decision has come down. Here in Northeast Ohio, pretty much all of the WalMart's have maintained OR INCREASED their selections of BD. Especially the SuperCenters.

So, no: just because your WalMart in middle-of-nowhereland decided to cut back on BD, doesn't mean that's the same everywhere. Heck, the Cleveland economy is probably one of the worst-hit areas in the nation, and we've got decent & expanding selections of Blu-ray.

Now, the thing that DID surprise me about the article, though (and makes me wonder if HDD could verify that their numbers are correct) ....is that they're saying that Digital Downloads are producing more than twice as much revenue as BD.

...I find that surprising, since last I read not long ago, DD's were still a meager part of the total media market, and not comparable to BD sales. --When did they suddenly shoot-through-the-roof?

I think I've been in a Walmart three times my entire life.

I'll go to a Target, Best Buy, or the mall..

I feel like the three times I've been in a Walmart I've seen people with missing teeth, bad accents and sweat pants =(

Not to mention those "extended" families where the age spread between the great grandmother and the youngest infant is about 24 years.

And, all of the other "undesireables" that seem to breed in large numbers and bring ALL of them shopping for the enjoyment of the other shoppers. Luckily, our local Wally world is fairly decent with minimal riff-raff and a nice, clean store. Still, going off hours is your best bet to avoid all the maggots.

That is true, but ever since 2007 DVD sales have been slipping, while Blu-Ray sales have been steadily increasing..Looks like Blu-Ray has finnaly made a name for its self.
