Default '12 Rounds' - High-Def Digest Review

Tom has reviewed '12 Rounds.' He says this is a lot better than 'The Marine,' but he does mention Seagal at one point, take that as you will. This Blu-ray has solid video and audio and some fun extras. If you're a WWE fan, you'll wanna check this out, for others, probably a rental.

I just watched this on DVD. While it is slightly better than the dreadful Marine, I thought it was generic, predictable and not that good. John Cena, while a good wrestler I guess does not make a good action star.

Barely good enough to watch on DVD let alone Blu-Ray IMO.

I may watch this one. I think Nate Boss gave it good marks over at Project Blu. Which is another good blu/ps3/hardware forum.

I noticed that there are some players that have an issue with this movie.

Please read the link.

Yeah, as someone above pointed out Fox dropped the ball in terms of compatibility release. Whether it was a new BD+ revision or a BD-J problem, it causes problems on a lot of players including select Oppo, Pioneer, JVC models among others. This should be indicated in the review IMO as there is currently no firmware fix or replacement program & stores don't take back movies easily.

I'm an action junkie so I picked this up.... old school style popcorn action flick, I was in................. This movie blows chunks.

3stars 4real???

It does stay away from the horrible "The Marine" style scenes, that made you want to punch the next person that walked through the door, and slash you couch cushions at the same time.

But it doesnt stay away from being horribly bland, generic, uninspired, coma inducing, predictable and just plain painful.

This movie is the equivalent of a homeless man coming up to you on a sidewalk and yelling in your face for an hour and a half.

aww shucks...

i agree pretty darn thoroughly with the scores given.

the film itself isn't as bad as one would think, considering it's a die hard with a vengeance rip-off if ever there were one, starring a shitty actor. 2.5 to 3 outta 5 is about right.

i'm a wresslin' fan, but NOT a cena fan, so i may have had SOME prejudice watching him on film. still wasn't anywhere near as awful as the Marine. my god.

the one thing worth noting for 12 rounds is the budget. it was made CHEAP, and i mean dirt CHEAP, and it doesn't look that way at all. they did an amazing job with what little they were given to create full, fast, and nasty action sequences.

Thanks, I'll update the disc stats section. I did not have any issues with my Panasonic or my HP laptop, so I didn't know.

I was going to indicate that the review needed to add a compatibility issue warning but didn't know how many players it affected. I didn't want to be accused of passing misinformation without knowing the whole story. I linked Winston's post because I have a JVC and that was in the JVC thread. I was shocked the almighty Oppo had issues with it but I guess it shouldn't be surprising with BD anymore. There needs to be stricter requirements for authoring discs and they need to be followed. When I read that it's taking 7+ minutes to load T2 Skynet Edition on a $500 player and then after waiting it out they found out it wouldn't play the video, only the audio I about choked.

I personally wouldn't buy this movie because it's not my taste, but just wanted to give a heads up for those that do.

I thought that was Transformers 2.

Yeah, 3 stars might be a little generous, but it still is twice as good as 'The Marine' (which ended up with 1.5 I believe) and as Nate said they really did an excellent job stretching the budget. Besides, the review pretty much makes it clear that it isn't a good movie, but will find a niche as a guilty-pleasure.

Updated. Let me know if I should change anything, it's under the Blu-ray Vital Disc Stats section.
