Default 'Inside Man' - High-Def Digest Review

Our review of 'Inside Man' has been posted. This is a thriller with a few interesting twists. The Blu-ray has fantabulous audio and video, along with some respectable extras. Highly recommended.

The VC-1 encoded 1080p transfer (aspect ratio: 2.35:1, region coded 'A') is absolutely gorgeous. There's really nothing bad I can say about it.
... apart from giving it an 8/10. So there's a 20% discrepancy there. The HD DVD, which is the same video encode, got a 9/10.

ken reviewed the HD VD version and boasts about how pristine the picture is execpt for the occasional blurry shot. He also talks highly about the cinematography thats featured in the film.

"In fact, my only minor issue came as a byproduct of Lee's intentionally high contrast, which often leads to crushing and hot whites"

This is something that Drew picked up on in his review for the BR release. The issue that Drew brings up is not noted in kens review. Just seems like the 2 reviewers had differing thoughs about the picture itself.

So 1 reviewer gave it 3 and another gave it 4. That's what reviewers do. Put 10 reviewers in the same room watching the same movie and you'll get 10 different opinions on at least one thing or another. That's why YOU need to judge for yourself and take reviewers opinions as just that - opinions! Nothing more. To each his or her own I say. And if you happen to agree with a reviewer totally then something's wrong somewhere or someone's lying - I don't know. LoL.

It still doesn't explain this bizarre inconsistency.

"Plummer has something in a safe deposit box in the bank that Owen is robbing, and he will do just about anything to keep that deposit box from being opened."

I think you could have and should have left that line out of your review. There is absolutely no need for the uninformed reader to know that. And there is certainly no need for the reader to know that Plummer is slimy character, because when he's introduced, you just think he's an innocent bank owner.

Please remember that its not your job to give an outline of the plot. Its simply your job to 1) say whether you liked it or not, and 2) give your assessment of audio/pic/supplement quality. Thanks.

Yes, it does actually. It's not like one said it was terrible and one said it was great. Both said it was a very good transfer, but each reviewer felt that it warranted a slightly different score due to some slight issues that came up.

Bizarre inconsistency? Would you like me to review all of your posts for inconsistency? I promise you your own opinions waver more than this from day to day, let alone in this case from person to person over a pretty big time period as far as the lifespan of HDM is concerned. The scores reflect a very minor difference in how to scale the transfer vs. others at different times.

My two cents is that this is quite consistent between the reviewers given the time that has passed, but that scenario wouldn't work for you to start an unfounded argument from now, would it?

I'm sure all of the reviewers here appreciate and now have a MUCH better understanding of their role in catering to you, please expect all further reviews to be to your liking

I do agree with your point regarding that line, however, I do think it is a minor spoiler.....

I wouldn't even consider that a spoiler. It's the basic premise of the movie. Describing what's in the box or what happens to it would be a spoiler.

In any case, my problem with the movie is that, in order for the plot to work...

Spoiler:
Christopher Plummer's character would have to be 105-110 years old. Perhaps if the movie were set in the '80s, I could buy it. But as it is, I have trouble suspending disbelief.

well.....

Spoiler:
maybe not 105-110 years old. He said he was young. 1942 - 2008 is 66 years. add 22 years. That makes Chistopher Plummer 88 years old in the movie. I think he's 80 in real life. I didn't have too much of a problem with that.
