Default 'Do the Right Thing' - High-Def Digest Review

Our review of 'Do the Right Thing' has been posted. This is a controversial film that remains a must see for film fans. This Blu-ray has a strong video and audio presentation that departs from past releases (color timing debates can commence.... NOW!) However you look at it, this one is highly recommended!.

Yeah, it's a bit like Dumb and Dumber with sociopolitical overtones

Can anyone explain why Halloween was awarded 1.5 stars PQ for having (possibly) altered colour timing but Do the Right Thing gets a pass even though it's definitely altered.

Having looked at some old reviews of DTRT, the colour scheme and photography gets mentioned a lot, so it must have been one of the most notable things about the film.

BBE,

yes, the film mixes situational comedy with sociopolitical thoughts, as Kid Banana mentions (sarcastically).

and Kid,

yes, the original photography of the film is one of its most notable aspects. Like I explained in the review, this one was a tough one to judge. Despite the change, nothing is lost --- it still looks and feels like the hottest day of the year. 'Halloween (1978)' also has a color timing change, but it also changed the mood and tone of the overall movie. This Blu-ray looks incredible, mood and tone still intact.

As a matter of fact, there was a special 20th anniversary screening in February (included in the special features) using the same print shown on this Blu-ray and neither Dickerson or Lee mention the change. I don't know what exactly that means, but . . .

Fantastic film. I think the term 'controversial' is thrown around a bit too much. These fictional events took place 20 years ago. After all, 40 years ago, the civil rights act was considered controversial.

Yep, you heard that right--5 out of 5 stars is spot on, one of the greatest films of the '80s...arguably one of the greatest films ever (though MALCOLM X is my personal favorite Spike Lee joint).

'Malcolm X' is good, but I thought '25th Hour' and 'Inside Man' came pretty close to matching 'Right Thing' in greatness. Both are very subtle, understated films that deserve to viewed a couple of times.

Why do you think it's surprising that it's a 5/5? I think it's considered a masterpiece.

Inside Man loses it's steam after a while. I think it's an overrated film.
