The feel is the same. There's 17 minutes of footage added, but when watching, it's hard to tell what's new or extended, even for someone like me who has seen the movie countless times. Personally, I think the theatrical cut is better. But yeah, I loved how the Extended Editions of the LOTR movies made them feel completely different, and a lot better. This doesn't do that.

Picking it up on day one.

I always liked that steelbook cover picture more. It was the cover on the widescreen VHS.

Someone posted on another forum pics of the back, front cover and the discs for Braveheart as they got it early. Initial impressions of the BD quality were very good.

It will not be long now!

Mine's already been en route to me since Monday, thanks to preordering from a certain online vendor (hint: if DVDAtlantic was the name of one ocean, the ocean on the other coast would be called _________)!

Just a warning to any of our members outside North America who were planing on importing the U.S. Paramount releases - Movietyme has tested and confirmed that Paramount has set both Braveheart and Gladiator to Region A locked.

We have just tested Gladiator: The Sapphire Series - (Blu-ray) and we can confirm that it is Coded Region A

And any North America members planning on importing the Gladiator Steelbook from Europe should wait for confirmation it is region free, as Universal is very likely to reciprocate and lock it to Region B.

I'll probably just wait for the 1st and hope to do a little better on the prices for both Braveheart and Gladiator. Thanks for the hint!

Only 7 more posts and you'll be able to (we impose the 10 post requirement before enabling links in post to prevent spammers from signing up & immediately posting spam links)

http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/DVDCompare7/gladiator.htm

I love DVDbeaver's details & info, but that is the worst site to navigate without a direct link.

They confirm the Paramount Sapphire release is Region A coded. Specs:
1080P Dual-layered Blu-ray
Disc Size: 48,335,265,792 bytes
Feature: 40,230,770,688 bytes
Video Bitrate: 23.18 Mbps
Codec: MPEG-4 AVC Video
Extended: 2:50:58, Theatrical - 2:35:01
Region 'A' - Blu-ray
DTS-HD Master Audio English 4404 kbps 5.1 / 48 kHz / 4404 kbps / 24-bit

Interesting - they also seem to have a copy of the Universal European release, with details to be forthcoming:

ADDITION: Universal Blu-ray August 2009: I've lived with this disc for about 1 1/2 days now and am still finding levels of interest subtly stacked within the package. There are 2 Blu-rays in this set. This amounts to an incredible digital achievement.

If by a miracle Futureshop has them on steelbook then I will buy both on day one. If not then I can wait a bit until all reviews are out and see how is the PQ.

I love Gladiator and watched it many times.

Braveheart I only seen it once and it was in the theater when it first came out.
