Default 'Fracture' - High-Def Digest Review

David Krauss has reviewed 'Fracture,' a film he dubs an elegant "howdunit" to tease your brains. This Blu-ray has great video and audio, but it's a little thin on extras. Certainly worth a look!

I never saw this movie. I love watching older catalog titles on Blu for the first time.

I blind bought this on sd dvd when it was first released. It was alright...kind of predictable though. It is worth a watch.

Hopkins was great, but the story kinda sucked, and was a bit unbelievable. what bugs me the most about this film is something that would go into spoilers territory, as it concerns the plot twist, but when it happened, considering police procedures, i wanted to yell at the screen.

I know what you're talking about and that pissed me off too.

The only reason to watch this movie is for the performances of Gossling and Hopkins.

This movie had all the right factors to make it great, but in the end just sucked.

Spoiler:
Yeah, the entire neat premise of the court situation is wasted by the ineptitude of the writing for the policemen. seriously, they don't check THE FUCKING SERIAL NUMBER? THEY DON'T REALIZE IT'S ANOTHER MAN'S GUN? the cop himself doesn't realize it, either? the entire movie only works if the setup works, and because of this twist at the end, the entire movie just made me angry as all get out.

i take my movies seriously. can ya tell?

That's an excellent point, Nate! Of course, we are dealing with the LAPD here, so in some ways it makes perfect sense! (LOL!) In that sense, it's utterly believable!

The review complains about TrueHD not being the default audio option. When this BD starts up, TrueHD IS the default audio selected. ????

Glad to hear your system defaulted to TrueHD. I've had trouble with Warner discs defaulting to DD 5.1, and I believe it's common problem with others, too. On my 'Fracture' disc, I had to go into the menu and change the audio selection to TrueHD after the movie began.

I believe Warner feels (or has felt in the past) that most people do not have lossless capabilities even though they have a Blu-ray player, and that DD 5.1 is the more universal option. I hope they are getting the message that this is NOT the case.

I think there's some rather grievous misinformation here about this decent thriller -
Spoiler:
when Ted was at the Hotel as seen on the surveillance footage he at that point was switching the guns.. so when Lt. Nunally came to the crime scene at THAT point he had Ted's (unfired) gun.. when Ted Crawford killed his wife it was with Nunally's gun. When Nunally went to check the dying women Ted switched the guns BACK and had his OWN gun that had never been fired knocked from his hands.. Nunally's gun, the true murder weapon was returned to him. The only part I didn't care for was the 'way' Beachum thought of it with the cel-phone switching... seemed too convenient. Also, earlier in the film Ted DID make a call to find out if Nunally was on duty at which point he was told 6 o'clock, he took one hell of a chance that it would be Nunally showing up (sent in alone I might add) and not called away on another call.. again convenient but.. that's the movie's, right?

Otherwise this is a nice thriller, about on par with another little gem I like Desperate Measures, lol, not 'great' but worth seeing.

Picture quality on this is OUTSTANDING!!

MOD EDIT: The "Major Spoiler" warning was nice, but still better to wrap the spoiler details in our neat little spoiler tag.

Well, yeah, you're right about that.

That part did suck though. Still, not a bad movie at all. Its only like $10 bucks at I-Net Video right now, BTW.

Can't really see what Nate said, but hopefully it wasn't the incorrect notion that the guns were merely switched instead of being switched... BACK, which has the plot elements making more sense.
