Josh has reviewed 'Fletch.' He says the humor has held up, even if the film has gotten rather dated. This Blu-ray has mediocre video and audio and some thin extras. Worth a look, but probably not a purchase.

Fletch is a GREAT movie, AND it follows the novel closer than you'd think. It's Fletch Lives that wasn't based on one of the books (one of the stupidest ideas I've ever heard, when you had all of those books to work from!).

The review is pretty spot on IMO, the disc is definitely not going to blow anyone away, but is MUCH better than the previous DVD offering. We really like this disc simply 'cause it's a fun movie and is prolly looking as good as it's going to anytime soon.

"Is 'Fletch' a great movie? Probably not, but its humor has held up fairly well despite (or even due to) the picture's datedness. It still makes me laugh every time I watch it."
Contradict yourself much? This IS a funny movie and it IS a classic. Hence the "its humor has held up fairly well", no kidding, that's BECAUSE it's a classic. |

Great movie, but I also loved European Vacation and Spys Like Us (classic!)

I wasn't expecting much from this given the reviews of the video, but I have to say, this is one of the best looking transfers of an 80's film I've seen yet. I'm not saying this is Blade Runner quality, but for a film of its kind, it does not look its age at all. A quick comparison of this and Ghostbusters (released theatrically the year before Fletch) was shocking.
