Default 'Defiance' - High-Def Digest Review

My review of 'Defiance' has been posted. Though not one of Edward Zwick's finest films, the director tells this stirring story of a band of brothers who help Jewish refugees evade the Nazis in a forthright, unsentimental manner that's often quite effective. This Blu-ray sports very good video and audio, and slim but meaty supplements. Definitely worth a look.

I really enjoyed this film and it looks great in High-def, man does it bring out the dirt on everyone's faces

Really is a great little war film. Not quite as epic as Saving Private Ryan, but it tells a story worth telling, and does it in a well-done, sometimes heart-wrenching way.

I'm a sucker for almost anything WWII, and I really liked this movie. I didn't find that the story dragged at all. In fact, I think they needed to tell everyone's story -- not just the main character's story. What I liked is that we didn't get the somewhat expected "Nazis bad...heroes good" message. The protagonists definitely had their faults, and they weren't above stooping to the level of their oppressors.

It's not an action film, so if you're looking for pure action then stay away. There are some battle scenes and I think they're quite well done.

I'm curious as to why you label the bluish tint of the film a transfer problem. That issue should have absolutely nothing to do with the transfer and everything to do with the color timing of the film.

I will concur it is not a spoiler. I know what you're thinking is happening in the picture, but it's not. Don't worry.

You are absolutely correct, earthquake. That was a poor choice of words on my part. Off to change it. Thanks for pointing it out.

No problem. When I read it, it just automatically makes you think something went wrong and it's a mistake. Then you start to overlook the praise you give it afterward.

Wow, only 3 stars for the movie itself? I thought it was great. 4 stars at least. I wouldn't really call this a war movie (although that's what I expected it to be), more of a drama. There were some battle/action scenes, but mostly it was character-based.

It is exactly how I viewed this movie. The pacing is slow but it kept my attention throughout the whole movie.

I think 3 stars is perfect. The movie was worth a watch but it wasn't great.
