OMG, this is great news, I just wish they would release Desperate Housewives on Blu-ray as well. Everyone in my entire school loves this show, and it would definitely make people at least in my school to consider Blu-ray. Desperate Housewives isn't the greatest show, but with friends it can be fun, so let's get this on Blu-ray also Buena Vista.

www.tvshowsondvd.com heard differently though, and is going to contact someone about it.

I heard that ABC broadcasts the show in 720p (though CTV does it in 1080i). Is there any possibility that the show is only SHOT in 720p? Just wondering if this'll actually be one of the first (to my knowledge) BRDs that isn't in 1080p.

I'm positive LOST is shot on film. So 1080p is definitely possible.

That's right, it IS shot on film. But, whatever they submit for broadcast isn't necessarily 1080i/p. If the finished master they submit is only 720p, it's pretty likely that the BRD versions will be as well, since it's unlikely they'd make a new master. I'm guessing they do a 2K transfer from the film, so it's not like they couldn't do 1080p.

I'm not at all sure as to how those decisions are made - if I'm not mistaken, FOX only broadcasts in 720p, but I don't know if that means that they insist the shows be mastered in 720p, or if the masters are all 1080p and they just choose to scale them down to 720p instead of 1080i. Anyone know how it works?

All the HD Fox and ABC shows I watch are broadcast in 1080i. And that includes Lost. Maybe they used to broadcast 720p in the past but since I've had an HDTV (2 years), they've been broadcast in 1080i.

I'm not sure what the resolution is or whether it gets scaled down or not. But I have a 1080i TV and even though I don't watch Lost (don't want to get confused with not having seen the first 2 seasons) I've caught parts on FOX HD and it still looks amazing.

Some ABC channels broadcast 1080i, but most are 720p. This means the master for HD shows on ABC is likely 1080p and scaled down for 720p channels.

Here in the UK we get it broadcast at 1080i/50 (the same week as the US). I wonder if the producers master multiple HD versions themselves, for all markets, or send out a 1080p 24fps master and each broadcaster does their own conversion on it.

Hope this is true (and tvshowsondvd wrong), we need more TV shows on HD. As a fan of Alias and JJ Abrams, I was really excited about Lost in the first season and have it on DVD, but season two was a big letdown and I haven't bothered to watch season three yet.
