Default 'A Bug's Life' - High-Def Digest Review

Drew has reviewed the massive release of 'A Bug's Life.' This one gets five stars for the movie, video, and audio, and the supplements ain't too bad either. Must. Own.

Ok we get two HD exclusive featurettes totaling almost 22 minutes, and a handful of the non-exclusive bonus features are in HD (as well as trailers which don't count when they are for other movies). How does this amount to a 5 star rating for high def extras? Only the 22 minutes are even exclusive, and tons of extras are in SD. This isn't the first movie to have this much HD extra content, or of this quality, but is the first I've seen get 5 stars. What gives with that?

I expected a movie to at least have nothing but HD extras, and tons of exclusive ones, along with movie-specific BD live downloads to even approach 5 stars. Not saying this isn't a must own, I just don't understand the HD Extras rating when compared to other movies that did just as good or better and only got 2 or 3 stars if that.

5/5 for the movie is very generous. It's a 4/5 with most Pixar movies being a 4.5-5.0.

Although, the outtakes over the credits were truly inspired. I might bump the puppy up to 4.5 for that alone.

'A Bug's Life' is often considered to be the worst Pixar film, but for me it's one of my favorites. I actually liked it better than Wall-e. What bugged me with Wall-e was when they went the cheap route and mixed in some live-action in it, so I think it's really overrated.

Sorry to get everyone's hopes up. Re-entered the scores for supplements and exclusives to be a bit more realistic, but of course it was the one time I couldn't seem to get the cache to clear and load the correct scores.

Not my favourite Pixar film by far, but I want to own them all on Blu. Will definitely get this at some point, and it being a top disc in many regards certainly sweetens the deal

LOL I wouldn't say "cheap route" is the correct phrase. More like "artistic decision". It's used as a way to show the digression of humans and values.

Got this disc on its way to me. Can't wait to watch this film again with my kids. Not my favorite Pixar film but fun nonetheless.

Minority opinion but this is my favourite of all the Pixar movies. I remember working at my local video store when this came out on VHS and me and the other employees would play it on the store's monitors all the time.

This was my daughter's first "favorite movie" when she was small. She used to call it "Lifebugs." We even have a Chinese VHS of it (she's from China). There's a special place in my heart for Lifebugs.
