Default 'Gran Torino' - High-Def Digest Review

David has reviewed 'Gran Torino.' He says this is classic Eastwood and one of the best films of 2008. This Blu-ray has excellent video and audio, but some thin extras. Still, this one is highly recommended.

Saw this in a double-header with 'Slumdog Milionaire,' and I gotta say, I really liked 'Gran Torino' much, much more. Can't believe it was totally snubbed by the Oscars.

I loved this movie and saw it twice. I feel like it is going to have very high replay value. It's great to know the pq/aq is good. Day one purchase for me.

I was really shocked when this didn't even get a single Oscar nomination; this was one of the best movies of the year, easy. I've had this preordered for a loooooong time and I'm glad to see the BD is technically excellent as well.

+1, really enjoyed this movie. While the pacing varies quite a bit, the story and outcome develop really well, and Eastwood's character is hilarious in his "ways."

Guys & Gals - Is this film really that solid? The previews didnt do it justice and I was concerned that it was going to be a Dirty-Harry retirement movie and would be filled with pointless expositions and silly contrivances. But, lots of good reviews are pouring in. Loks like I should at least rent it.

It actually is in a way, but in a very good way. Gran Torino is Eastwood closing out his Dirty Harry-character type the same way he used Unforgiven to provide a coda for his Spaghetti Western-character types. It is a film about the "end of the line" version of his Dirty Harry character who suits up for one more go. If you enjoyed how Unforgiven handled Eastwood's western-genre acting past, then you will definitely enjoy the way Gran Torino closes out his Dirty Harry-past.

In a word, yes. Definitely has the potential to be an emotionally moving movie that also touches on all sorts of societal ills, and has a good dose of Eastwood humor in it. People I know have approached it with all sorts of different prejudices and come out at least entertained. I would hard press anyone to check this out as a rental anyways...

Day one. This is a great great movie. I'd almost say its Eastwoods best directed movie. Up there with Mystic River at least.
