DVDBeaver review is up. Actually gives it pretty low marks compared to other reviews I have seen.

His complaints have to do more with the look of the film over anything, I personally thought the transfer was top notch.

The audio was on the quiet side, but it's not like it was an action film to begin with. It's very dialogue driven, and sounds fine overall.

Well I mean even the score given for the movie itself seemed pretty low. I haven't seen it yet but everyone here acts like it should have been an Oscar nominee so a 6 out of 10 seems odd considering all of the praise I have seen for this film.

Wow, I don't know how anyone could dislike this film.

Eh, so someone didn't like it, most folks did. He seemed sensitive to the language as well....

The language used was fairly fitting though, it's not like comedies where it's out of nowhere.

I will be picking this up. I'm a fan of Eastwood, the actor... and a bigger fan of Eastwood the director. When I first heard about Gran Torino, it seemed like a really fun diversion from Eastwood's recent Oscar fodder... kind of a modern Rolling Thunder.

It's a pretty decent film, and Eastwood is always mesmerizing... but ultimately, it's kind of muddled between being an exercise in social commentary laced with personal introspection and being a flat-out revenge flick without knowing what characteristic to fully embrace.

While watching it, I just kept thinking how much better Samuel Fuller is at mixing pulp and politics. If this film had been made twenty years ago with Fuller directing and Ernest Borgnine starring, it would have been fucking incredible.

As it stands, it's flawed but still pretty watchable.

I can understand peoples enthusiasm for it sure... but opining it's lack of Oscar recognition... really? Not that the Oscars are a declarative representation of "good" cinema... or that Slumdog Millionaire deserved it anymore (it didn't)... I loved Grindhouse an awful lot, but I wasn't gonna shed a tear that it didn't receive several golden statues.

Just finished watching this (love getting Netflix on street date.) I thought the movie was solid, but did no one have any qualms with the acting? Seriously, the dialog through the entire movie felt painfully forced by Eastwood and the neighbors. The one scene in particular where the sister is shooting witty comebacks at the three black guys was horrid. I've seen better acting in Lifetime movies! Eastwood seemed like he was playing an actor doing an impression of an old, pissed-off Clint Eastwood. The constant growling and clenching-teeth-while-talking-out-of-the-sides-of-my-mouth line delivery almost got absurd to the point of comedic. Like I said, I feel like the movie was solid, but by no means do I see this as an instant classic. Glad I chose a rent on this one.

How else is one supposed to play a pissed off old man with no ability to cope with change?

Dude... that's classic Eastwood style.

I loved this movie. It had me laughing out loud a few times too. Eastwood is the man!

this was my favorite film of 2008 and i cant wait to see how he takes on the supernatural in directing 'Hereafter' especially with Spielberg on board.
