Default 'Weeds: Season One' - High-Def Digest Review

Kenneth's review of 'Weeds: Season One' is up. He's a fan of the series and says this ten episode Blu-ray set is an absolute steal at its $29.99 list price.

A great price for a high def tv season (I know its only 10 episodes). I glanced at it earlier and can say I'm impressed. Can't wait to watch it and then get season 2.

$20 on Amazon. I've got this coming from Netflix Thursday and if I dig it I'll probably just go ahead and tack it onto my order.

I'm not. Even if I had a BR player right now I might pause on buying it seeing it's running length, the fact it's on one 50 gig. BR with MPEG2 as the encoding. This to me, along with extras to add insult to injury, makes me suspect the picture wasn't quite as good as it could be reading the review.
I think Lion's Gate should've encoded this in AVC MPEG4 or VC-1 and made it a two disc set, one 50, the other 25.

I just stayed up all night and watched all 4:43mins of season one. IMO, the PQ is 4 stars (really between 4 and 4.5 stars). The show is really funny! I was surprised. I understand why a Golden Globe was awarded to one of the cast. I can't wait to get 2nd season!

There are people that out there that still don't know much about codecs, so they are quick to say MPEG-2 is bad. Remember MPEG-2 transfers can be done in real-time. Advanced codecs can not be done in real-time. MPEG-2 just takes up more space than the advanced codecs do. This MPEG-2 transfer was nice...not perfect, but nice.

If Kenneth had mentioned anything about compression artifacts being distracting, I might agree with you, but he actually mentions how greatly improved the compression is compared to the TV broadcasts.

The "problem" with this title not receiving a stellar PQ review is most likely due to the master itself. This a relatively small, lower budget television show that doesn't have the most mind blowing aesthetics or the money to make it look like a visual gem.

I love this show. Love the BD, great price at $21.99 CAN. I'm watching it right now and pleased with it.

Anyone else here missed Quinn (Hodes)? I love her part in the show, hopefully Jenji Kohan (Creator) can get her back in Season Three!

I picked this one up on a whim. Had heard lots of good things about the show, and 20$ was too good to pass up. 2 episodes in, I considered it in my Top 5 favorite shows ever. July 24th is far too long to wait for Season 2. Its a funny show, but theres a bit of drama as well. The review was spot on. Just pick it up and give it a try.

Did you recieve your copy from Amazon.com?

Pre-Ordered mine along with Coming to America, now they are saying that Weeds S1 will be released July 24. Where every other store has it in stock.

Excellent show, PQ is very good-Anyone have problems with the disc? i.e. when pause will not start up again instead goes to a different part of the disc.

Default bdp-s300 playback problems with Weeds Seasion 1, disk 1?

I'm not able to easily play this disk on the sony bdp-s300?
I cannot get to see the menus. They eventually come up, but only if you move the "cursor" around the screen and even then it only displays the area under the cursor.

Does anybody else have that problem with this disk on this player?

Thanks...

Sam.
