Default 'The Machinist' - High-Def Digest Review

Josh has reviewed 'The Machinist.' He says this is an eerie thriller with a disturbingly transformed Christian Bale at its center. This Blu-ray has very good picture and sound and a few good extras. Recommended.

An interesting movie, certainly one I'll be buying, but not one with a plot ultimately worthy of Bale's extreme sacrifice for it. I'm curious what he found so profoundly compelling about the screenplay to be willing to go those ends for it...

I will be getting this one. Bale's physical transformation still amazes me after all this time. Talk about going all out for a part and developing the character. Movie is good as well, lol.

Well. I own the Japanese HD DVD and i have owned the German VC-1 version aswell but i can't say anything about them vs eachother because i haven't compared them as i sold the german BD before i got the HD DVD!! But i remember the german BD to be atleast 4,5 stars like the Japanese HD DVD which looks awesome aswell.

But according to K Brown.s review the VC-1 encode seems a tiny bit better and maybe the best of the bunch but hardly worth any drastic replacement aggony. All 3 seem to share a bit of EE though.

I would like K.Brown to take a look at this Paramount edition aswell if possible?!.

It felt funny that both P Bracke and J Zyber had reviewed 3 days of the condor aswell where J Zyber raised the PQ score half a star ensuring us that the HD DVD was DNR.d !! P Bracke din't say anything about DNR back in the days. Sure he didn't have the BD to compare to but still. Sorry for OT.

Sounds like the German blu is the best of the bunch. Glad I bought that one. I took a chance about a month ago even though I knew it was releasing in the U.S. Happy with my purchase at $20 shipped. Will have to Netflix this US release to check out the extras but that's not enough reason for me to get the US release simply for extras

I sincerely doubt there's any difference in picture quality. Ken just felt it deserved half a star more than I did.

In the end, there's no point quibbling over half a star difference in ratings between two different reviewers. We both agree that it's a good looking transfer overall, but with some problematic e.e.

Well being as one is AVC and the others are MPEG4, they can't be the same. I mean, they could be the same quality, but that would be a matter of opinion as they aren't exactly the same.
