Default Vote for the next Criterion Blu-ray!

Amazon and Criterion are letting the customer decide what one of the next Criterion Collection Blu-ray titles will be!

The titles in this survey are:

Au Revoir Les Enfants
Down By Law
Howards End
Kwaidan
Picnic at Hanging Rock

Cast your vote and tell Criterion what you want to see!

That's great news, and I like they're giving fans the opportunity to vote, but I'm disappointed by the choices we're given.

Should be an "All of the Above" option, but I went with Down by Law...I want me some Blu Jarmusch.

^^

Whaaaat! Au Revoir Les Enfants, Picnic at Hanging Rock, and Kwaidan are excellent films. Frankly, I'm having a hard time deciding between those three in particular.

Agreed. Of the movies listed I've only seen Picnic at Hanging Rock and I didn't care for it. I checked the other titles out at IMDb and none of them appeal to me either.

Criterion tend to have a rather diverse and 'arty' catalogue so this is not unusual.

I voted for Kwaidan and hope that they get it right this time.

I go for "All of the Above" as well.

I single out "Au Revoir les Enfants" only because it should be seen by everyone for the lessons imparted by a great work of art.

And thank God for that!!!!!

Let's hope for the Powell/Pressburger technicolor masterpieces "The Red Shoes," "Black Narcissus," and "Offenbach's 'The Tales of Hoffmann.'" Incidentally, all three (I believe) were photographed brilliantly by the late Jack Cardiff who passed away a few days ago at 94 and who has provided many pertinent contributions to Criterion commentary tracks.

But I'll settle for any of the planned releases. Just don't know which the hell to vote for!!!

Hmmm. Tough choice for me between Au Revoir Les Enfants & Kwaidan but I voted for the latter.

I cannot wait for more Powell/Pressburger films to get the high def treatment. I have the Black Narcissus import and it is simply beautiful.

Howard's End is the only one I wouldn't vote for, but only against that particular slate of competition. Damn.

The good news is this: that list of "competitors" are clearly already in the works for BD treatment anyway (let's not kid ourselves: our "vote" is only a PR move, and all of these are in the pipeline for release in the next year or so; this is only, if only, to fast-track one to a nearer-term release). So we'll see them all soon enough!

I hadn't realized that Criterion was re-releasing titles on Blu-ray that they already have previous DVD editions of. Do they get new spine numbers and/or features and artwork?
