Default 'Basic Instinct' - High-Def Digest Review

Peter's review of 'Basic Instinct' is up. He's a fan of this camp classic, and says that Lionsgate may have created best transfer possible for the film's Blu-ray debut. This one's a fun read...

I wonder if they used the same master as the studio canal/Universal HD-DVD...that one was not too impressive, bleeding reds and all...

Note: Yes, the notorious interrogation scene shot of Stone is retained here in all its unrated glory, and high-def more than does the moment justice.
The PS3 handles slow-mo nicely

I've got the HD version and mine doesnt bleed reds, did you have this film or are you going by a review?

I would say the HD version is the best version I have seen so far having not seen the Blu ray version, a Vs compare would be interesting!

Love this film classic, and the score is awesome too! RIP Jerry Goldsmith!

Nah I watched the HD-DVD, what I saw was "pixelmotion" in parts of the
reds, mostly in skintones, you could actully make out the compression
in the reds...moving blocks and so on (maybe colorbleeding is the wrong
term, sorry about that), sure some parts of the HD-DVD look great, but
overall I remember a VERY soft picture presentation, sometimes only
up to par with an upscaled DVD...

Cool

BD version is very good. I'll give 4 out of 5 in PQ
It looks so clear in that "scene"

I would also be very interested in reading a HD-DVD vs. Blu-ray review of Basic Instinct here at the High-Def Digest. The HD-DVD has a DTS MA soundtrack, but none of the extras (according to the box cover).

That's why I bought BD instead of HD, and it's much cheaper ($19.95 at Wal-Mart)
