Default 'Freedom Writers' - High-Def Digest Review

Kenneth's review of 'Freedom Writers' is up. He says this Blu-ray release boasts "excellent" video quality and solid enough audio, but he bemoans the somewhat lacking supplements package, which he felt fails to suitably explore the film's real-life origins.

One again blu-ray has a lower audio quality...

HD-DVD the format that "sounds" like a better choice...once again!!!

So far of the all the movies that have been reviewed on this site there have been 14 movies that have earned a higher rating in audio quality on HD-DVD than on their lower quality sounding blu-ray counterparts.

.............................................HD-DVD AQ.........BR AQ,,,,,,Total Difference
1. Alice Cooper: Live at...................4.5................3.5 ...............1
the Montreux
2. Ant Bully....................................4........ ...........3.5..............1.5
3. Babel.........................................4... ................3.5..............2
4. Flags of our Fathers.....................4.5.................4. ...............2.5
5. Freedom Writers..........................4................ ....3.5.............3
6. Happy Feet.................................5............ ........4...............4
7. Lady in the Water].......................4....................3.5... ........4.5
8. Mission Impossible.......................3.5.............. .....3.............5
9. Mission Impossible 2......................4...................3.5.... .......5.5
10. The Phantom of the Opera............4.5................4............. .6
11. Sleepy Hollow.............................3.5............ ....3.............6.5
12. Superman Returns........................5.................. 4.............7.5
13. Training Day...............................4.5............. ....4.............8
14. Wicker Man.................................4............. .....3.5...........8.5

And for those of you who might say, "but...but...it's a different audio code!?'
The FACT still stands that blu-ray is a lower quality sounding movie than HD-DVD of the same titles. So don't get all blu in the face if your system isn't sounding right....it's not the systems fault...it's the discs.

The overall review from HiDef digest is right on. I enjoyed the film a lot, but the sound was really underwhelming on BR, and I wish ALL the extras of the HD DVD had been there. I guess back then already Paramount was giving HD-DVD a better treatment Definitely worth renting however.
