Default 'Tommy Boy' - High-Def Digest Review

Nate has reviewed 'Tommy Boy.' He says this Chris Farley, David Spade film hasn't aged all that well over the years. This Blu-ray has good but not great video and audio, and a few interesting supplements. This is probably a rental.

Sounds like Nate has grown up, tsk tsk. I still stop at this movie if I'm flipping through the channels and laugh my ass off. Same with Billy Madison

I still laugh at Happy Gilmore, though it is less and less. Billy Madison, not at all anymore, not even for the penguin.

Default Year of Release Is Wrong

Tommyboy is from 1995, not 1997 as is currently listed.

This is the best of Farley's movies. He shows a lot of promise, and it's a shame how little of that promise shows up in his other films.

Funny, I just tried to watch Billy Madison again a few weeks ago and just sort of sat there staring at the screen. It just didn't do anything for me anymore.

Happy Gilmore and Dumb and Dumber still make me laugh to this day, but movies like Tommy Boy are barely passable for me these days. Don't know why

I still enjoy this movie, not enough to purchase it but definitely enough for a rental

I'm the same way (except D&D has lost some of it's shine for me too). I can revisit the Sandler films much more easily than Farley's work, but at the time thought they were both equally entertaining (I watched and regurgitated waaay too much of their material when I was in high school and college)

I thought your comment was interesting because several of my friends who go back to high school feel the same way, also.

Although he did make me laugh in his bit part in Coneheads last weekend.....

I really do wish we could have seen his career progress

I totally agree with the "Hasnt aged very well" comments. I have been mostly disappointed with several older films that at one time I may have liked. Seeing them now though just reveals how lame they really were. Some are OK, but this title looks to be a big "meh".

This is why they should be concentrating on rock-solid films that almost everyone will like instead of digging through the archives of crap just to increase the blu-ray release count. Whatever.

Well, I still enjoy this one, though I'm going to stick with my DVD edition. Now, Black Sheep was a movie I saw recently that I realized wasn't very good. Its just kind of a not-as-good redo of Tommy Boy.
Although, I guess no movie stays as funny as it is when you see it the first time. Comedy and horror are probably the two genres with the least amount of re-watchability.

kinda agree. comedy has the lowest, easily. i'd say suspense films, or "zomg plot twist" films are also equally low in replay value. i'm the type that can replay horror films 'till the day gets old, they have my highest replay value. you cannot believe how many times i've sat down to a good slasher or zombie film.
