Default 'The Mask' - High-Def Digest Review

Drew has reviewed 'The Mask.' He says the movie has aged badly, but this Blu-ray goes a long way towards revitalizing it, with excellent video and audio. The supplements are also pretty thorough. This one is recommended.

I bought this one along with Dumb and Dumber. Wasn't exactly blown away by the video, but at least it was a lot better than Dumb and Dumber, which looked like an upscaled DVD.

Only 2.5 stars for the movie? Deserves a 3.5!

Movie deserves 2 stars, tops. People only liked it because it combined two hot things: CGI and Jim Carrey. Together, they must be good!

I'm guilty of liking it at the time, we all probably are. Doesn't mean it's any good.

Will somebody tell me about the death of Peggy (you can use spoiler tags)? I'm not planning on buying this movie but I really want to know what that is.

There, fixed that for you.

So I guess none of the supplements or any unmentioned material is Blu-ray exclusive? There's no star rating or paragraph for it, which are often zero stars and a heading that says "Blu-ray Exclusive Features" followed by "Nothing". If the norm is to now just leave that out if there is nothing, I like to be reminded that there is nothing personally. The paragraph can go, but leave in the zero star meter at least so that I'm not left wondering if the reviewer forgot to check to see if any of the features weren't on DVD, or if there's BD-Live or whatever.

I would say it HAS been about 10 years since I seen this flick. Maybe a buy when I see it cheap.

My thoughts on the review? Detailing the poor aging of THE MASK in repetitive circles. Really. I get it. A film that was ahead of its time is now woefully behind them. Let’s move on. Seriously, could the reviewer have belabored this issue--but without any supporting evidence whatsoever--more? For me, it remains Carrey's second best film, behind only LIAR, LIAR. Lots of fun to be had here, though the reviewer may be a hair more enthused about the video quality of the BD than me.

Where do they dig you guys up?!
Heres a clue for you so called "reviewer", If you see no grain especially on an old title like this, its more than likely been DNRed to death giving the impression things are made of wax.

While certainly not a reference-quality presentation, you could show The Mask Blu Ray to anyone who saw it in the theaters or on home video and say “Now, look at THIS” and they would be very, very impressed.
Uh huh.

I'd say a solid 4. Carrey's best work, and a great pragmatic adaptation. Overall, I can't see why anyone would dislike this film. It's not Citizen Kane, and it's not The Dark Knight, but it's a darn good movie.

I agree with the reviewer, had a ball with the flick when I first saw it, but have passed everytime it has been on TV. Too over-the-top, too-Carey, too-Everything, except maybe not too-Diaz (she looks really great in this movie).

IMHO, the first Pet Detective is Carey's funniest.

Totally agree - its like a novelty or something: Cool at the time when you didnt know any better but now it just reminds of how horribly over-rated Jim Carrey is. The guy made a ton of money by twisting his face for two hours. I mean - good for him.... but hes not a professional actor in any way, shape, or form.

Spoiler:
When Dorian puts on the mask in the newspaper factory he kills her by throwing her into the press and you see a paper come out with a headline about ther death printed in red.

Hope that satisfies.

I agree about the first Ace Ventura probably being Carey's funniest. I haven't seen The Mask in years, so I can't really comment on that, although I don't doubt I would still like the movie now.
