Default 'The Matrix' - High-Def Digest Review

As a midday bonus, Peter has reviewed 'The Matrix.' This Blu-ray is just the first movie from the box set released last year, but if you'd just assume forget the sequels ever existed, this disc's five star video and audio should be just the ticket. Recommended.

Movie rating seems a bit low to me....I mean, if the Ultimate Box Set got a 3 and 1/2 star movie average...does this mean Reloaded and Revolutions are just as good as the first?

I would say the first movie is 5 Stars and the 2nd and 3rd worth a 3 stars.

The first Matrix and Blade Runner no doubt in my mind is the best live cyberpunk movie.

Very cool box cover by the way.

I completely agree, but I tend to disagree with many of this reviewer's film scores so it's likely a case of just enjoying different movies. I'm sure there's another reviewer on here who would rate it higher, and therefore, more in line with the score we believe it deserves.

Nonetheless, you make a good point about the reviewer contradicting himself giving the Box Set and this the same film-itself score. Then again, maybe he's not saying that Reloaded and Revolutions were just as good, but rather that he feels that Animatrix was the best and deserves a 5 while Reloaded and Revolution deserve 3's .

Then again, this reviewer would probably give Star Wars (A New Hope) 3.5 out of 5 as well. While Star Wars and the first Matrix easily deserve 5 stars for the film itself in my opinion - definitely in my top 5 favorite Sci-Fi movies and both classics.

Also, I'd say the Matrix sequels are better than the Star Wars prequels - but that's a different topic altogether. Suffice to say, I'd give the first Matrix a 5-star rating easily, and the Matrix sequels somewhere between 2-3.5 stars.

The first one is definitely the ticket for me, so this is going to be mine.

I'm still sticking with my HD-DVD copies.

Hopefully they'll release the Animatrix as a standalone at some point.

i feel the need to also point out this so i agree with you both, i cant believe he gave it a 3.5. imo, it's a perfect 5, it did everything perfectly and gave birth to a whole nother kind of sci-fi. matrix reloaded-3.5/5, revolutions-1.5/5.

+1, but I won't feel heart broken if it doesn't.

I wouldn't honestly give the movie a 5 star rating. The acting from Keanu is still pretty darn wooden, and it sort of drags in the beginning. You have to admit, some of the script was cheesy as well. I would give it 4 or 4.5 out of 5 stars.

This is still nowhere near a 5 star transfer/encode.
