Default Torchwood - The Complete Second Season / July 7th

From BD.com
Quote:
BBC Home Entertainment in conjunction with Warner Home Video has announced that they will bring 'Torchwood: The Complete Second Season' to Blu-ray on July 7th, day-and-date with the DVD release. All 13 episodes will be presented in high definition and be spread across four BD-50s.
Probably 1080i/VC-1 and (at least I'm hoping) some form of Lossless audio.

Also, BD.com is slightly wrong. It isn't hitting day and date with the DVD. The DVD has been out since Sept of last year, so....

More info from theHDroom.

BBC Home Video will continue releasing Torchwood on Blu-ray Disc with the second season confirmed for a July 7 arrival.

Season One of Torchwood was released last year but there was never any indication whether sales were strong enough for BBC to continue forward with another season on the pricier Blu-ray format.

Torchwood: Season Two on Blu-ray will span four BD-50 discs and be presented in 1.78:1 1080p video and either 5.1 Dolby TrueHD or Dolby Digital audio.

Bonus features will total over 3 hours and will include at least the following though possibly more.
  • The Lives and Deaths of Captain Jack
  • Torchwood Declassified Featurettes
  • Outtakes and Deleted Scenes
  • Interviews
  • character profiles!

Default 1080i50

This series was shot in 1080i50, but the U.S. Blu-Rays are presented in 1080i60. This is causing some ghosting and comb effects, which are very obvious when you pause the show or do anything besides normal speed playback. I found this really annoying with the Season 1 Blu-Rays.

I'm not sure if 1080i50 is a mandatory format for american Blu-Ray players, but if so, then it would have been a better option to encode the discs at 50 Hz and let the player figure out the best way to send them to the TV.

From what I've read/seen, the show was recorded at 1080p25, but edited at 1080i50; the framerate conversion assumes that every field has motion (whereas only every other has motion) and it creates ghosting/blurring as a result.

Default Yaaaay!!!

LOOOOOOVE! This show. It sucks that Season 3 will be only 5 episodes.

The series 2 season finale is one of the best hours of television ever and handles the death of a major character so superbly....that I teared up.

There, I said it.

Thanks for ruining it for me....lol j/k. I haven't finished S1 yet. I rented the first cpl of discs just to see if I'd like it. I did, but never got around to purchasing it. I'd like to get it on hd dvd, I missed out when it was selling for around $37 shipped last year.

Torchwood is better than X-files and Fringe shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath.

Each episode of Torchwood is a frikkin' masterpiece. Raw, unfiltered with AWESOME characters, plots and villians.

If there is any "ripping off" going on it's Fringe ripping off The X-Files. Fringe is an entirely unoriginal show.

Yes, on the second, not so much on the first.

Just my opinion of course.

Well, I don't know about each episode being a "masterpiece"... are many of them good? Absolutely. But there are a few stinkers in either season to say that each episode is a masterpiece of unfiltered awesomeness. There's too much camp and absurdity going on sometimes to make that statement ring true for me.

But, again, just my opinion.

The camp and absurdity is PART of it. I know most people need to be spoon-fed everything, but Torchwood is actually an HOMAGE to sci-fi. If you're a fan of sci-fi, you'll see all of the inside jokes, satire and just a little parody of some of the classics.

Like the old "teammates eventually love each other" thing that always happens gets a twist Jack and Llanto hooking up. Hell, Jack will try to hook up with ANY of the teammates. They did the "spooky village on the outskirts of town" episode. They did the "which teammate is the traitor" storyline. They did the Ghost Story show. They did the "villain returns from the dead/past" story. Hell, the even did the "giant monster stomps all over the city" story! Throw in a little time travel with a bit of "am I dead?" on top and they hit on just about every sci-fi cliche but with that special British Torchwood twist.

Torchwood was AWESOME and again, the actual characters were superb. Each with such a unique and distinct personality and I loved every single one. Even whiny-ass Llanto. But of course Toshiko was the heart and soul of the show....and well.....I'll just stop right there.

Okay, seriously, I am not a crazed Ianto fangirl (that's how you spell it, btw) but I would certainly never call him "whiny." Dryly funny, smart, damaged -- sure. But not whiny.

Default Cover art, new date for 'Torchwood: Season Two'

***Update***

And it's now coming July 28th.

As per BD.com:

Quote:
One casualty of the bump, however, is that the Blu-ray release of 'Torchwood: The Complete Second Season' has been pushed back from its July 7th release date three weeks, to July 28th, to coincide with the release of 'Children of Earth'.

Also, could a mod change the date in the thread title? It is no longer correct.
