Default 'The Chronicles of Riddick' - High-Def Digest Review

Peter has reviewed 'The Chronicles of Riddick.' He says this is a silly, but entertaining popcorn movie. This Blu-ray has great video and audio and mucho supplements. Worth a look.

The DTS track on the HD DVD release was rocking my system really, really well. I wonder how much of a step-up this DTS HD-MA track really is....

I love this movie. Can't wait to see it on Blu. I think I may be the only one who didn't care for Pitch Black but liked TCOR.

As with PB I really loved this movie. It was cool to see Riddick in the real world etc. Also M is in this.

I don't understand your review, Peter. You give the picture quality rating nothing but superlatives, but then rate it a 4.5/5. What gives?

The audio on the 'Chronicles of Riddick' HD DVD was a disappointment -- a Dolby Digital-Plus track that, while good, cried out for the high-res audio treatment. Universal has heeded that call, and given us a DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio 5.1 Surround track (48kHz/24-bit). The uptick is noticeable, and in some aspects, quite substantial.
Dang. To triple-dip or not to triple-dip, that is the question.

Does the BD really offer that much of an upgrade in the AQ department over the HD DVD? What do other purple jurples think?

Heavily into necrophilia - still enjoying 'dead' HD DVDs.

I like this film and have never understood why people disliked it... I always thought it had a Warhammer 40k feel to it which I loved as a kid. I was disappointed it did so badly because I wanted to see the story continue, glad there is talk of a sequel!

I'll definitely be upgrading from my DVD copy.

The Chronicles of Riddick grew on me. I thought it was just ok at first and after repeat viewings, I've enjoyed it more than Pitch Black.

All these glowing endorsements make me think I must have missed something. I could never get through the first 30 minutes... I just bored me to tears. Did I miss something? Should I give it another go?

I actually really liked this movie as well, from the first viewing on.

I will admit that with subsequent viewings some parts drag, expecially the part where he returns to the planet and the meets back up with the priest. Overall though, a very enjoyable piece of sci-fi popcorn.

The DTS MA was really kick ass on the Blu-ray. In a direct comparison to the HD DVD I found the DTS MA to sound richer and pack a much nicer punch. Well worth the upgrade from HD DVD (or DVD)

I like the film, great popcorn film like it's been said. If people like the atmosphere, read (yes, read) The Algebraist by Iain M. Banks.

3 stars? that's far too generous. This film is rubbish. I bought it on HDDVD as a blind buy, and i will never forgive myself for such a lapse in judgement.
