I have had zero problems with my BD-P1000. Try downloading the 1.1 firmware again from Samsung and reapplying it. Some folks at AVS seem to have the same problem as you, but after reapplying the latest firmware (download it from their site) the player works fine with POTC 1+2. It seems like there may be two 1.1 firmware updates.

Yes, the firmware update is all you need...Pirates 1&2 would not play on my Samsung BDP1000 at all, I downloaded the firmware, burned it to a disc, and installed it. Both movies play absolutely fine now!!!!
Anyone having trouble, you need the firmware update... -

I have the PS3. Watched Pirates one today. Had the PS3 freeze on me in the middle of the movie. The image froze but the audio continued to play. I couldn't do anything with my PS3. When I ejected the disc the screen went green. Finally was able to turn the system off by holding the off button a lot longer than is normally required. The rest played fine after that. Though it kind of locked up again when I was trying to check out some special features. It flashed to a screen that listed a lot of things to look at, and then just went black and wouldn't do anything until I stopped playback altogether.
Also, anyone who has watched this movie, did you notice in the scene after Elizabeth is forced from the plank when she resurfaces in the water that the sky behind her is severely flickering? -

If you have atleast v1.5 of the PS3 firmware update, I would say you have a bad disc (or mabey something with your PS3?)... I've watched Pirates 1 & 2 on the 20Gb PS3 twice each and not one flickr or lock up...

What's odd is that I was watching the special features on disc 2 tonight, and I watched some part on them shooting the plank scene. At the end they showed the final cut that's in the film (but in SD of course), and it too had the same flicker going on. Same scene, different discs, different definitions. And everything going on in the foreground is perfectly clear with no problems.
Also I tried going into the scoundrel thing on disc 1 again, and it went to a black screen and wouldn't respond to anything. This is with 1.8 update on the PS3.Last edited by ChldsPlay; 05-27-2007 at 04:40 AM.

Hmm. Sounds like you got a problem, mate. Can't say what it is, but I am sorry for you. I played Pirates 1 on my PS3 before the 1.8 update, and Pirates 2 after. No problems. I also watched the bonus disc of 1, and zero problems again. How long have you had your PS3, and have you had any other problems with it? (Sounds like a hardware problem, either the PS3 or the TV...not that I would know...)

Had the PS3 since January. No problems really outside of the usual crap Sony has been attempting to fix via updates, and the occassional issues their updates cause. Pirates 2 I haven't had any issues with at all so far. Just problems with that scoundrel thing on pirates 1 disc 1, and that flicker in the one scene, which I find very odd that it's on both discs, especially when one is in standard definition.

Yes, that is very odd.
And what "occasional issues their updates cause" are you talking about? I've never had any issues. None. And if this is the case, then perhaps you'd better contact Sony with your problems. See if you can get a replacement. This does sound like a PS3 problem.~~~~~~~ From the Blu skies above ~~~~~~~

After the 1.5 update there would be times that movies would pause for about 10 seconds for no reason. It didn't happen if you didn't go to the network before watching the movie though. Not sure if they fixed it or not. Since 99% of the time my PS3 is on it's to watch movies, I've only experienced this problem once. My other problems were wifi and PS2 game related. The game one was fixed with 1.5. Had to buy a new router for the wifi problems.

I have watched both movies on the PS3 and had no problems I know that the standalone players all need updates to play not only Pirates of the Caribbean but also new releases.

i just got the disc from samsung, the firmware version 1.1, put it into my samsung bd-p1000, and the menu comes up that is usually for adjusting resloution and audio. i hit enter at title and it says no program found. i called samsung, and they said that they must've sent me the wrong program, or a blank disc, and theyre sending me a new one "urgent". what a joke.
