Default 'Brokeback Mountain' - High-Def Digest Review

Peter has reviewed 'Brokeback Mountain.' He says this is a masterpiece that only improves with repeated viewings. This Blu-ray has very fine video, upgraded audio, and some underwhelming extras. Recommended.

Have to give this a rent. I'm not the biggest fan of this film, and it's not because of the subject at all. I read Annie Proulx's short story, which the movie is based off of and enjoyed it. I just can't put my finger on why I didn't like it as much, while so many others did.
Hence the repeat viewing on BD to solve my dilemma.
My favorite film that deals with a subject matter like this one is the underrated 1999 movie Flawless starring Philip Seymour Hoffman and Robert DeNiro. One of the few movies that a superstar like DeNiro is outperformed in.
Another note, anyone interested in seeing Brokeback Mountain as a Opera?
It's arriving in 2013

This is another movie that I feel plays much better at home than in a theater. It requires an intimate setting and total quiet to absorb the mood and really connect with the material. Th first time I saw it was in a theater and it didn't hit me as hard as I thought it would; the second time was at home on standard DVD, and it blew me away. I'm really looking froward to picking up this Blu-ray.

Not to knock DeNiro, but you can't get much better than PSH. He's never less than stellar in everything he does.

i dont get it. Both HD DVD and Bluray video section says that it knocked off 'half a peg' and Bluray's video score is 4 but HDDVD's score is 4.5

This movie is beautiful in it's landscape, scenery, and cinematography. I can't imagine how great it'd look in HD. Even if you don't like the movie, it's a very pretty movie in it's setting and the camera work.

I have seen it once on DVD and loved it. I have this pre-ordered and I'm sad it was pushed back a week. Nice review, Peter. Another one that you called correctly. This is a masterpiece. And while I'll always love Crash, this was the superior film in 2005. I refuse to let a film I've only seen once enter my top 100 list but I have a feeling I'll be clearing a spot for this next week.

My local Best Buy doesn't even have this for sale. I went by there mainly to get the Watchmen Motion Comic Blu but I was also curious about Brokeback and I couldn't find it anywhere. Figures in the Bible Belt, right? Sigh.

Aren't all independent films about gay cowboys eating pudding. And redfirebird2008 I am sure we won't find Brokeback in certain parts of Texas, Hell all there is here is a Wal-Mart, at least you get a Best Buy.

Can it be because the HD DVD review doesn't say anything about DNR??

Then it should be half a peg down from the HD DVD:s 4,5 and not from a 5..

I watched this last night.

Probably my favorite movie of 2005. The BD looked amazing.
