Default 'Boondock Saints' - High-Def Digest Review

Our review of 'Boondock Saints' is up. This is a gritty, if flawed crime film. This Blu-ray has decent video, good audio, and some fine supplements. Worth a look, especially for fans.

Unfortunately I have to agree with the somewhat disappointing PQ assessment, but overall an upgrade to the DVD.

It's a shame, because I love the movie.

May purchase it when It's a budget title.

So I was one for two earlier this month(in terms of the blu meeting/exceeding my expectations) for catalog Fox titles when I picked this and Office Space on release day. They are two of my favorite flicks, and I wanted to make sure I had the best version of each available. That said, Peter gets this review spot on.... the PQ leaves a bit to be desired, but for me, given the gritty nature of the film (and what seems to be a master that got into a scuffle with Duffy on set) I can deal with its inconsistency and fluctuation. The AQ is solid and a fun way to give the system a workout. At ~$24, its tough to recommend whole heartly, but if you like the genre, or are a fan of the film (like myself) , its a worthy pickup and a nice upgrade over the dvd (especially if you, like me, one had the original single disc dvd and not the re-released special edition)

Agreed. It is a definite upgrade, just not as stellar as some of the demo worthy releases of late. I don't regret the purchase for a moment.

I freakin love this movie, but from a critical standpoint, I deffinitely understand 3 stars. In my book its an easy 4/5. But being a fan of cinema, I can see the flaws.

Default Boondock taints

An excellent and spot-on review from Peter Bracke. However, I take a slight difference in the following statement... "In the case of 'Boondock Saints,' it's not so much the film's violent nature (and it is violent) as the behind-the-scenes drama from which it sprang that makes it infamous."

Sadly, I've been surprised at the number of people that actually LOVE this film and have no knowledge of the Overnight documentary or think of Boondock Saints as a cheap and thoughtless Tarantino knock-off. Personally, I heard about the film when Overnight was first released theatrically, then I rented the documentary and shortly thereafter the film. I completely agree that Overnight is the real story here and the more entertaining one at that. BS (ha! gotta love acronyms sometimes) is strictly entertainment for the lowest common denominator.

My point is, I'd argue that Boondock Saints is known as both things equally: a case study of sudden success turning into a disaster, and an extremely entertaining, smart violent comedy. But just writing the latter makes my skin crawl.

This movie is one of my faves, but I do have it on DVD. If the quality isn't a big step up I'll skip the upgrade

Good movie. Rented it for the first time last week. The PQ I thought was pretty good but the AQ definitely wasnt up to par. imo
