'Dead Man's Chest' - High-Def Digest review

I gotta say, I could get usd to all these five star ratings. 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest' is the fourth review this week to win perfect scores from Peter Bracke for both audio and video. While he didn't love the movie itself nearly as much as he loved its predecessor, Peter still recommends this disc, saying that as the new standard-bearer on Blu-ray, 'Dead Man's Chest' is a must-have.

I have owned the SDVD of this since release day, and have never watched it. Now I'm just waiting for it in the mail to watch the day I get it. I absolutely cannot wait.

I saw this movie twice in theaters (1st time i saw it i had TERRIBLE seats cause it was so damn packed) the second time i saw it was at a DLP cinema theater (and i got there over an hour early HAHA) and I thought the movie was great. Granted it didnt have the goodness as the first but i thought it was a great sequel that was leading into the third movie and didnt think it came as bad as 1 star. Anybody else agree?

yeah, i think peter doesnt mean to give the rating for the movies so bad cuz he'll give a movie like this 1.5 stars and then the hitcher which was a lot worse 2 stars and then he'll give the covenant which was the worst movie ever!!! a 3 star rating!!!!

i dont really care what he gives for a film rating when it coems to the POTC franchise cuz i know i'l love it. only a couple people told me that they hated the 2nd POTC as much as they loved the first one because they believe that the ending was so bad as in the whole movie was just building up at worlds end.

basically, that is how DMC works but that doesnt bother me none and since its over 2 hours long, it no doubt is its own movie. i cant wait to get these from amazon! (not to mention along with flags of our fathers and the 40 year old.)

I'm kind of in the same boat as Peter. I didn't enjoy the 2nd film as much. Overly long and filled with too many action scenes. Certainly not 1.5/5, but maybe 2.5/5. I'm hoping the 3rd film will improve on this one.

So Fantastic 4 as a movie is 3.5 stars, and this is 1.5, whatever man.

So according to the review, this movie is about as good as Little Man and Scooby Doo which also earned 1.5 stars.

The movie wasn't that bad ...it certainly wasn't good as the first PotC. People failed to realize that PoTC 2 was not meant to stand alone. It was clearly intended as the first part of a bigger movie. The second half is At World's End. Peter's criticism is fair ...the movie was a bit bloated. But it deserves more than 1.5 stars. ROFL.

I never trust peters reviews when it comes to the movie it self. I only trust his PQ and audio reviews. He gave the covenant 3 stars and DMC 1.5 stars for that alone I will never trust this guys opinion about a movie. I liked DMC more than the original POTC. Its not as bad as some say and deserves way more than a 1.5 star rating. I cant wait untill my two Pirates blu-rays get here.

I somtimes don't evne trust his PQ review, he's flakey. On a movie that has artistically added color, grain, etc. he will downgrade a movie for (such as Casino Royale), yet on a movie that has grain but at the fault of the producers poor decision making (they went with a 55mm camera or whatever the reason was), they get a free grain pass and don't get docked for it. He's not consistant at all with how he rates his movies on PQ - I suppose it just depends on the movie, whether he's feeling generous or not.

Agreed - but he won't use the same standard when reviewing a movie like "March of the Penguins". Drives me nuts. Either you don't like grain, or you do.
