Default 'Ray Charles: Live At Montreux 1997' - High-Def Digest Review

Ernie has reviewed a little classic Ray Charles! He says 'Live at Montreux 1997' is a simple, but powerful concert presentation. This Blu-ray has excellent video, audio that's accurate, but certainly not show-stopping, and pretty sparse extras. Still, fans should enjoy this release.

very nice. i was scanning through the radio a few weeks ago and ended up listening to "Georgia on my mind" and remembered how incredible Charles is.

I'm still trying to read where/why the movie itself only got 3 stars? :/

The concert in total is 88 minutes but Ray really only plays for about 75 of it. He puts on a great show but I'd say it's still not a definitive concert because I think there was a possibility for much more to be played. Some of his songs he does in his trademark ways but I wouldn't say that any version he did in this concert trumps anything or any way that he's done it before. It's pretty light affair and unless you're a fan of his or jazz in particular will I think this will interest much outside of that. Considering some concert discs have memorable performances that you just won't get anywhere else or just a breathtaking impact, I reserve the fives for those, something less magnanimous but of greater length for fours, but when you're short, and not the end-all be-all Ray Charles performance, 3's not out of the disc's reach.

^^Should have been in the review then.^^ It would make the review less arbitrary if the reader knows where you are coming from... this especially should be in the review - ''It's pretty light affair and unless you're a fan of his or jazz in particular will I think this will interest much outside of that.''

Duly noted. However I felt the last sentence in the movie review and in the final thoughts said it, along with not saying that there was a to-die-for song. But in the next concert disc I do I'll keep it in mind.

but.... VERY GOOD REVIEW otherwise, I was just wondering how the 3 came about, to me a 3 is not a purchase a majority of the time.

I agree, Archer. A 3 in DVD terms is still a buy, but a 3 in Blu-ray costs, is a pass for me. However, as a younger fan of Ray Charles and player of jazz, I still thought it was worth the watch and was glad to have watched it. Not sure if I would have gone out and bought it blindly though.
