Default 'Mirrors' - High-Def Digest Review

Tom has reviewed 'Mirrors.'

(Editor's Note - Before I start, I just have to point out that this
review opens with one of the greatest opening paragraphs of all time.
Enjoy.)

Tom says the movie has it's effective moments, but it's certainly not
one of the great horror movies. This Blu-ray has excellent audio,
quite bad video, and some decent supplements. This is a rental.

My son and I went to see this on opening night. We both thought it was terrible and we like horror movies. Pass.

Thanks for the comments!

I was going to type this one backwards so you had to hold your monitor up to a mirror to read it, but then I thought that wouldn't go too well on the boards here…

Watched this the other night. Not impressed at all, but it is not the worst either.

Has the original film hit BR yet as I'd like to see it. Oh and hello Tom, nice to see another friendly critic who writes for HDD.
Oh and that director can try to kid himself not calling it a remake but it sounds like it is. So let's just call him a hack as appropriate as well.
I'll recommend some good Asian Horror flicks though. "Face" is really good, quite fucked up. "A Tale Of Two Sisters" is obvious and "The Red Shoe" is SO messed up.
I also recommend the ENTIRE J-Horror Trilogy.

I call bullshit on the PQ rating, nowhere near a 2, IMO.

Ok, this guy is retarded. How can you give such a review, with the cumulative score being 2 1/2 stars, and the end result being GIVE IT A RENT? This is a One to Avoid review.

I blind bought this being a huge fan of horror and Kiefer. It was ok, nothing spectacular, pretty much what I expected.

I did notice how bad the black levels were throughout, I had to really tweak my Sammy 650's settings to get a nice black but it was way too dark for my other BD's. Never had a problem with my current settings with any other BD's, good to see it was the source and not my set.

I don't understand... only 2/5 for video quality?

Screenshots @ DVDBeaver look nice and other reviewers have given it a much better rating.

HighDefDiscNews - 4/5
Beyond Media Online - 4.5/5
DVDTalk - 3.5/5
DBTechno - 8.5/10
DVDVerdict - 94/100
DVDTown - 5/10
DVDAuthority - 8/10
IGN - 8/10
AVForums - 9/10
etc.

Not to nit pick, but the overall score should be a 3 and not a 2 1/2. The combined scores average out to be a 2.75 or, if you combine the HD extras with the supplements, a 3.125, both of which round to a 3.

Any ways, good review. This will be an avoid for me.
