Default 'Doom' - High-Def Digest review

Peter has reviewed 'Doom.' He's not a fan, but says this Blu-ray has strong video and even better audio. This is a rental for the fans out there.

I'm looking forward to this disc. The movie may not be a modern day classic but it's certainly entertaining IMO. Besides that, the very presence of The Rock actually improves the movies he's in. The review of 5/5 for audio will be a treat too.

I have a weird opinion of this movie- I pretty much fully agree with Bracke's bad review of this movie, and yet I like it

One thing though- does it really have an X-Box 360 demo of Doom 3? How does that work? The system shouldn't be able to read a Blu-Ray disc.

Surely Universal has better catalog movies then this that they could release on blu?

Sometimes I am really confused by the decisions made by these companies.

This was already released on HD DVD.

While I agree they certainly have better films, Universal needs to complete the transition for HD DVD ---> BD. They've got a hell of a lot of HD DVD titles (130 or so) that need to get out to blu so things like Doom and whatever else need a release sometime.

I was and continue to be dissapointed in the doom movie... Doom 3 the video game was friggen scary! Open portal to hell, get attacked, try to just stay alive... Now that was scary, playing that game for the first time actually put me on edge, got the crap scared out of me by my roommates (at the time) hairless cat jumped in my lap... It was the idea that you could only survive the ordeal, not actualy have any hope of winning.

The movie, removed this whole sale from the plot... the genetics thing was just crap...

Why would they feel the need to do that?

I'm sorry but I don't really understand your question.

Regardless, they've already begun.....

Universal is supporting BD now - however, they have / had 130 titles on HD DVD. Why wouldn't they eventually release all (or at least most) of their HDs on blu-ray?

+1

although not shakespeare, Doom 3 had a scary plotline, dealing with demons, possessed zombies, ghosts and satan even. instead they just copy and pasted 'Rsident Evil' (the movie) in space. Horrible. Friggin disgusts me.

I mean why? if your just going to set out to make a shitty moovie anyways, at least stay within the concepts of the original plot. doesnt make any sense.

I wouldn't count that as a foregone conclusion; there are a couple that would require a new master if Universal had any decency in their hearts, but more importantly there are several that sold really poorly because they were catalog titles and didn't have a lot of explosions. I think 'The Sting' sold somewhere in the high hundreds (!); I can't see anyone rushing to press that again anytime soon.

That of course, raises the question of why they're bothering with 'Doom'–it was also one of their launch titles for HD DVD (their very first, I think!), with the accompanying fanfare. Now it's one of the first catalog titles they rush to put on BD as a catch-up. Didn't this movie make, like, three dollars at the box office?

Anyway, God help me, I had a lot of fun watching this. It's dumb trash from beginning to end and it never pretends to be anything else. Lots of hilarious science, lots of gratuitous gore, and Rosamund Pike and Karl Urban make the bizarre decision to actually act their way through this movie (after a while you start wishing they could be lifted off to a family drama somewhere so we could watch them work out their issues). I liked this enough to get it on HD DVD after already having the DVD...but I'd really have to worry about being able to face myself in the mirror every morning if I also got it on Blu-ray. Those of you who will, have fun!
