Thumbs up Hard Boiled Blu-ray Coming Packaged With Stranglehold PS3 Game

I didn't see this posted, so I will post the news article. Apparently, if you buy the Collector's edition of Stanglehold for the PS3, you will get Hard Boiled the movie in High Def. Pretty good deal for paying $10 extra for the game.

Here is the link and article:

Canot post the link since I am new, however, it is

PS3 Stranglehold getting Hard Boiled

$70 Collector's Edition of Midway's action game will come with a high-def version of John Woo's classic action film; new exclusive trailer inside.

This summer, Midway Games expects to ship Stranglehold for the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. Today, gamers sitting on the fence about which version to buy got an incentive to pick up the PS3 version--or, more accurately, the special Collector's Edition for the PS3.

Like many collector's editions, Stranglehold: CE will have special packaging and a slightly higher price point of $69.99, $10 more than the regular version. However, the boxed set will have one major extra--a full-length copy of Hard Boiled, a 1992 Hong Kong action film. Both the game and the movie will be on the same Blu-ray disc.

Directed by John Woo, Hard Boiled follows Inspector "Tequila" Yuen, a maverick Hong Kong police detective, as he brings down a ring of vicious gunrunners. Though it features some similar scenes, including a take on the iconic tea house shootout, Strangehold is intended as a sequel to the film. In both, Tequila is played by Chow Yun-Fat, whose likeness, voice, and motion-captured movements appear in the game, which is being codeveloped by Woo's Tiger Hill games studio and Midway Chicago.

It's Tequila time...in HD!
Stranglehold: Collector's Edition will mark the first time a game and Blu-ray movie have been released in a single package. In North America, the initial run of PS3 hardware came bundled with a Blu-ray version of Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. In the UK, the launch batch of PS3s included a copy of the latest James Bond film, Casino Royale. According to recent video-industry news reports, Blu-ray sales are currently outpacing those of the rival HD-DVD format, which is supported by Xbox 360 maker Microsoft.

If it's not region coded, it won't matter. You can order it from Amazon and should be able to get it.

This is a really cool idea. Talk about taking advantage of the hardware.

This could be the greatest piece of blu-ray news I have heard to this point! This is a must have for blu ray owners. If you have never seen or heard of this movie, go to mrqe.com or imdb and take a look. Chow Yun Fat and John Woo like you have never seen! This is one of the most intense action movies ever. Maybe we will see down the road a Killer video game combo!

This is odd,i much rather prefer to have the movie seperately but admit this is a cool ectra.Heck, this might be the best reason to buy the game. But first...will this be the butchered American version or the original(that in America is only available by Criterion)? Will the sound priority be given to the original dub and how good is the source material.I hope peolpe don't end up with the more subdued R rated cut,bad dubbed sound and a teared up and shriveled up transfer.I'm cautious about this one,and are you sure it will work in region B players(or Playstation's)

Either way you slice it it's a pretty good deal. Theoretically we'll be getting a BD movie for only $10. Whether the transfer is superb or just mediocre it's still a bargain.

Great idea for PS3 marketing but I doubt that they'll go back and clean up the source print and audio track for a combo like this but I hope I'm wrong.

If you really care about HD DVD, don't get the Xbox 360 add-on and make the same mistake I did

As someone who hasn't seen Hard Boiled but has wanted to, I'm wondering if the game requires, or strongly benefits from having seen the movie. I would assume so since its the same character. Having said that, I wonder if it will be unlockable or just watchable from the start. If not, I'll netflix the DVD so that I'm in on the story. Otherwise I'll wait and watch it off the game disc in HD first, unless you have to beat the game or something beforehand.

That'd be pretty terrible to have to beat the game to unlock the movie. Hopefully you can just watch the movie from the start. If not maybe they'll be a cheat code to unlock it.

Since I've never Hard Boiled before I'm hoping to watch the movie and then play the game.
