Default Its official: Star Wars not coming to Blu-ray anytime soon :-(

http://blogs.pcworld.com/staffblog/archives/004363.html

Quote:
Unfortunately, according to John Singh, spokesperson for Lucasfilm Ltd., "Lucasfilm Ltd. has no plans to release any of the Star Wars movies on Blu-ray or HD DVD. Listings on Amazon.com or any other Web site are purely speculative and erroneous."
I cant say i'm really surprised. Lucasfilm would be foolish to release the saga in high-def now. They will release the "ultimate editions" later this year on sd-dvd, which every star wars fan will buy. then in a year or two they will release the films in high def and get everyone to buy the movies again.

by releasing the bluray versions later, lucasfilm is doubling their profits, as all fans who own bluray players will no doubt shell out the cash for each "new" release. its brilliant marketing.

I've been telling you all this for a long time. But no one would believe me.

although i knew this all along, and i'm DEFINITELY not saying that it's coming soon, but:

Before a company announces the release date of ANYTHING, they will say exactly what lucasfilm just said.

"We have no plans to release (blank) on (this platform)".

So i mean for all we know, a month from now they WILL have plans and announce an official release date.

The point is that we DON'T know, though. So speculating about it is pretty much useless.

What is the "ultimate edition"? I've just about had it with the Lucas cashgrab plan ie. Star Wars. After all the hype there were only ever 2 films in the series that were any good. The rest were mediocre if not outright bad...

Actually, I said that the release date will be given within the next 16 days.

You don't have to believe me. I'm just asking you to remember my prediction when it is proven correct on May 25, 2007.
Can't wait for his response. Sorry guys.

Of course not man. Look, I'm an avid HD DVD supporter, but look even I'm willing to agree that (with both formats probably co-existing, sorry but probably) I may have a $139 dollar blu-ray player in my bedroom or main room and once the market is saturated wth High def players and TV's lucasfilm will release them and we'll all have them. These Blu-Dreams of Blu-ray fans having a MAJOR one over everybody else by owning the holy grail, Star Wars isn't going to come anytime soon, my friend. I know this isn't the "smackdown" or whatever, but I'm making a point. Move it if you want to.

nothing is known for sure about the ultimate editions but there is rampant speculation based on tidbits and scenes known to have been left out of past relases. Episode I is going to have alot of changes, but most of them will be special effects related. No Jar-Jar editing unfortunately. Episode II had a TON of scenes cut out of it that were not included as deleted scenes on the disc. EpIII will be mostly unchanged. the OT is getting another overhaul, special effectswise. Instrument panels and things like that will be updated to look more "modern." Christian Hayden and shot extra shots with the emperor as vader for insertion in ANH. And yoda will be digital all 6 episodes. That is all pretty much confirmed rumor, if there is such a thing. who knows what else we will get, but this is supposed to be lucas' final tinkering with the saga.

Awesome! Ep. 3 has a lot of mistakes though!

Are you sure about the digital Yoda in 5 and 6? I heard nothing about that.

Can't wait!

Lucas should just stop all this tinkering and go to the end result of his
agenda: the replacement of all characters in all 6 films with Ewoks.
You know he's going there, it's just that he needs to double-triple dip
the consumer on each film to get enough money to make it happen.

There are so many mistakes George needs to fix in 3,4, and 5 so I am thankful for the fact taht he is going to do it. I heard soem pretty cool things planned for changes in 6. Those blocks around the tie fighters need to go in 4! And the Wampa monster glove in 5 needs to go.
