Default 'Babylon A.D.' - High-Def Digest Review

Tom has reviewed 'Babylon A.D.' He think it's important to note that the main character's name is an anagram of "poo rot." Also, this is the most poorly edited movie he has ever seen. Still, this Blu-ray has excellent video, amazing audio, and some good supplements (in case you're curious to know how they made such a crumby movie). Toss a coin: Heads - rent it, Tails - skip this puppy.

I'm Netflixing it.

I've got the book, haven't read it yet. It's a big book. It's about 500+ pages.

Without spoiling anything I will just say I enjoyed this movie until the end. The ending is just plain terrible.

If the book is 500+ pages, the movie is about 90…

What Fox needs to do is release a director's cut and put back in the 70 minutes they surgically removed. Then it might have more substance to it.

As much as I try to avoid using only reviews as a tool for deciding what to rent/watch, there is simply too much haterade being poured on this film. Its so bad that even someone who might have found some parts they liked still cant recommend it.

I just removed it from the Nutflix queue. Screw it.

I have to agree with this review exactly. It was a complete mess, with the story jumping all over the place. I sat there at the end going what the hell just happened, and what was the conclusion. This film doesn't wrap up at all, and leaves more questions than not. Sometimes that can be a good thing, but not when it's a bad film like this was. It started out like a City of Men wannabee, and just got worst. It didn't know what it wanted to be, and it showed.
It kind of went Serenity for a small ammount of time after it tried to be City of Men, and then you have a resolution that never gets resolved. The ending was rushed, and not complete with no satisfying conclusion. You will ask yourself this same question after it ends, "What happened to ? "
Even when I returned the movie and was in the store, a guy told me the movie wasn't good, I replied I know unfortunately I watched it, but we both said the same thing about the ending" But what happened to?".
If this movie has anything going for it, it's the superb audio sound it pumps out. Like Tom stated, I think it has to be the major reason I kept watching it, the picture quality was great also.
One last dig before I wrap this up, during one of the scenes towards the end we are suppose to see the perspective from the girl through her eyes, instead the shot begins to circle around Vin or poo rot, and looses the whole point of why we began that shot sequence to begin with. There's lots of this in the movie, where a scene will start off okay, then it just gets hacked apart slowly until they jump over to whatever else scene they want to edit into. Stuff seemed to come out of nowhere like the snowmobile sequence, we have to cross this open space of land, and oh by the way there are drones flying around and will blow you up.
My only hope is that down the line we might get to see a directors cut of this film, seen the way the director intended it to be, so if it is crap it was the directors fault all along and not the studio. Plus there has to be something trapped under this mess that is Babylon A.D. Only rent this film if you have a kick'n surround unit, other than that pass on it.

Actually really enjoyed..... the first 45 minutes.
Just prepare yourself for the next 45, cuz its a big WTF just happened. And then you get to the ending and its really WTF just happened.
Right at the 45 minute mark it goes into xXx territory and totally ruins the setup IMO.
But with the PQ and AQ as an overall experience I'll go on a limb and give 2.5/5 stars.

Had the benefit of expecting crap I guess.

as a scifi fan, i preordered it 2 months ahead, just haven't had time for it. i haven't seen any real complimentary reviews, so i will go in with VERY low expectations, and as such, i just might be entertained.

i'm not a diesel fan, by any means. i was happy when he took a break from acting. but he came back, and joaquin phoenix quit, it's like.....NOT a fair trade lol

I don't know, this ended being a total guilty pleasure for me. The audio quality was fantastic so that helped, I guess. I kind of like these dystopian popcorn flicks and this certainly fit the bill.

I'll save you all a long drawn out review.

It's pretty shitty.

But there are a few entertaining parts. Don't buy.... rent if you got nothing else worth watching.
