If this film is so bad, how come it spawned so many sequels?

    (never seen it btw)

Horror movies tend to be very cheap to produce and almost always make a healthy profit, no matter how bad they are.

Bingo. Studios will back a horror movie over just about anything else, everytime. Heres why:

    - No good actors needed
    - No costs for special effects or anything like that
    - Can be filmed in a small studio or 4-5 rooms total
    - Sets are cheap or not needed
    - The target audience is a cell-phone wielding teenager looking for cool murders and torture scenes. Blood, sex, guts.... perfect!

Very little overall effort and thought has to go into a horror movie. Just find 6-8 hot teenagers and come up with a "guy" to brutally hack all of them. Easy!

I wasn't aware there were cell phones around when these endless sequels were so popular in the 80s.

IMO they are just plain fun. People bitch and moan it's the same formula over and over again, and that's the point. Some people just enjoy cheesy movies with fun kills.

Excellent point. I love these movies because they are fun and it never gets old. I hope they keep making them.

This transfer is a sad joke. At best it's below average. While it is sharper, the entire movie is zoomed in and cropped. I think Bracke (who wrote the book on F13) has some egg on his face right now. I would suggest people to avoid this one and send Paramount an e-mail to issue a correction.

Bracke, is there anyway you can tell Paramount about this mess?

I don't think the zooming is that big of a deal -- the lost information is negligible. I'm thrilled to have it in my collection.

At the very least a buyer beware should be strongly mentioned in the review. Especially coming from the guy who "wrote the book" on Friday the 13th. I'm quite angry about the extra close ups, cut off hands and missing background information that adds to the overall mood. This is like a halfway point between pan and scan and widescreen.
    Here is a cropping example

Wow, I was thinking of picking this up, but not with the picture cropped. Too me the missing image is the equivalent of applying DNR in Patton. Thanks for the warning.
