Default 'Dexter: The Complete First Season' - High-Def Digest Review

Tom has reviewed 'Dexter: The Complete First Season.' He says it's one of the most original, captivating shows on television. This Blu-ray set offers a significant upgrade from the DVDs, with 4.5 stars for video and audio. Some of the extras were unavailable at press time, but based on the technical qualities and the show itself, this one is highly recommended.

Great, another BD by paramount with BD-live only features. Well, looks like I am not getting this. I am not usually one to turn down a series/movie for lack of features, this does bug me a bit. I have a non bdlive player, and as I suspect others do as well. Why make it only bdlive? SOme features I can understand like, the streaming of the 3rd season ep1 or podcasts or something like that. That I do understand. But to put all of them on bd live? Wasn't there another one like this?

Does it come with a MIR if you owned the set on DVD like The Godfather set and a few other Paramount BDs?

The features are really fluff to begin with. So, I wouldn't let the idea of them being "BD Live only" hinder your purchase. I'd make the price the bigger deal.

It's a great series...like truly great. I'm completely addicted to it. I say it's a must see.

good review, Dexter is one of my fav shows as well. when I watched season 1 on dvd I had no expectations and it blew me away. I wasn't planning to watch it on blu ray but after this review I think I definitely will. let's hope this show has a good run; it seems certain shows with a 'limited' premise end after a few seasons, like lost (how many seasons can they remain trapped on the island?) and prison break (how many prisons can they break out of and why do they keep ending up there?) and the same concept might apply to dexter's premise--how long can he remain doing this without getting caught or the show getting repetitive?

as for the night scenes and the graininess, I was just telling my friend who is a blu-ray newbie the other day how about 70% or more of the night scenes I've seen in blu-ray are grainy as hell on my tv, which is a plasma 720p. I tried out a 1080p and the graininess was still there. my friend was also telling me about the grainy night scene problems, so it seems to be a common blu ray issue they should work on. there are exceptions though, like sunshine, where the blackness of the space scenes are flawless and pure.

I think the night-scene graininess is an issue with the photography and not a Blu-ray encoding thing; trying to gloss over that and "fix" it would get pretty ugly.

So did I get this way before the street date, or what? Amazon sent this to me a while ago and I've checked whether the BD-Live features are up several times. Unless it just happened they have yet to materialize. Annoying.

I've got the Westinghouse TX-42F430S 42" 1080p LCD. I know you may have heard bad things about it, but I've got to tell you: Never buy the Westinghouse TX-42F430S 42" 1080p LCD.

I'm hooked on this show and I'm disappointed that it isn't region free, I hope the UK release doesn't take too long.

Is there any deals for this anywhere? Amazon has it for $37 but I'm shooting to get this in the mid-twenties.

I don't believe so. I didn't see anything like that unfortunately.

Glad you guys liked the review. It was a fun one.
