Default 'Zodiac: Director's Cut'- High-Def Digest Review

It looks like you're gonna have to dig out your wallet and spend some more money! Ken has reviewed the 'Zodiac: Director's Cut' and it sounds like this is what movies are all about. This Blu-ray features a fantastic flick, a stunning video transfer, and subtle, effective audio. Supplements are also incredible. This one is HIGHLY recommended.

Hmm
My European, Norwegian copy to be exact doesnt feature TrueHD, only DD (sadly), and from what I remember, PQ did suffer from compression. But what can you expect from WB, really? hehe
This is the Director's cut, though? DC is 162 mins, while thetrical is 158 mins

And I just found out that my Norwegian copy is in 1.85:1 while imdb and this site states it's in 2.35:1. W T F Warner?

This is clearly going on the market, I had better get myself a better edition, cause this film is pure enjoyment!

Too bad this release still has the same awful artwork. Glad to hear that the DD+ was just as good as the TrueHD.

That’s the first I’d heard of the camera used to film this movie. If it produces things that look as good as this, why isn’t it used more often?

Because many directors and DPs still like real film.

And the Viper isn't the only one of its kind. The Panavision Genesis, Sony CineAlta and Red One are all competitors that produce similar results. So there are lots of choices if a director wants "the look" of digital HD.

The Genesis has been used in quite a few films and Soderbergh just used the Red on Che... the first film shot with that camera (a 4K RAW format).

Fincher used the Viper FilmStream again on Benjamin Button.

Looks like this is another one I can save my cash on since I have it on HD DVD and it is apparently equivilent to the bluray.

Well, the only difference worth mentioning is lossless soundtrack on BD.
