Default 'King Kong' - High-Def Digest Review

Peter has reviewed 'King Kong.' He's still not a fan, but says this Blu-ray has five star video and audio, though little in the way of supplements. Worth a look.

Looking forward to getting this, shame about the extras though, ah well I guess I'll be holding on to the extended DVD then.

The press release indicated that there would be U-Control art galleries on the theatrical version and Picture-in-Picture & Art Gallery U-Control along with the commentary on the extended cut. Did that not come to fruition or did Peter just miss something in the menu?

I was planning on picking this up soon (like this weekend - I know a place that usually breaks street date a few days early) but if it really is even more barebones features-wise than the HD DVD, which does have PiP diary excepts and art galleries, I'm not so sure.

The biggest problem this film had is that its just too damn long. (and this from somebodys who's favourite films almost always hit the 3 hour mark)

In this version after 90 mins they are just arriving at the island. The orginal was rolling its end credits.

Why does Peter Jackson take twice as long to tell the same story?

IMO the movie is better than the review it got. I will say though I really enjoyed this when I saw it opening night in the theaters, but have enjoyed it less on repeat viewings. Regardless I do wanna see Kong fight the T-Rex in HD!

I picked up the HD DVD on the cheap before Christmas. I'll stick with that version.

Now a 3 hour remake of Dead Alive would be awesome.

Seems like a copy and paste review, mostly because most reviewers received it yesterday, and because there are more extras. There is a Picture-in-picture track with cast and crew interviews, behind-the-scenes footage.
There are also art galleries which are found on the extended version.

Look at any of his movies. Peter Jackson does not understand the concepts of restraint, moderation, or storytelling efficiency.

Yeah, there's a Picture-in-Picture track, as well as art galleries. and of course the commentary which he mentioned, MyScenes/BD-Live.

HD Bonus Content: Any Exclusive Goodies in There?
Like the previous HD DVD, there is little in the way of exclusives on the Blu-ray of 'King Kong.' You can access My Scenes to bookmark your favorite chapters, and if you're player is BD-Live-enabled, share them with others on the web. But that's it.
I was led to believe that there would be more than just MyScenes and MyScenes sharing.

Like, ya know, maybe the U-Control from the HD DVD as mentioned in the press release.

EDIT: Damn, damn, damn. Damn you Blu-news for beating me to the punch!

.....

PS: Thanks for confirming Loys. Good to know the U-Control is still intact.
