Default 'Planet Terror' - High-Def Digest Review

Josh has reviewed 'Planet Terror.' He still laments the dismantling of 'Grindhouse,' saying the movies are each weaker on their own than as a double-feature, but this one is a fun B-movie. This Blu-ray is faithful to the gritty spirit of the film. Half-recommended, as you really ought to buy it with 'Death Proof.'

LOL, I like that one.

I haven't seen 'Death Proof' yet, seen this one and found it OK, but far from great. May pick it up with 'Death Proof' at a later time.

Great flick, not as great as Death Proof, but I'd say its a must own Blu Ray title.

Couldn't agree more that neither one of these is as good as 'Grindhouse' (and I don't know about this one, but the extra footage added to 'Death Proof' really kind of ruins it). So frustrating!

I don't remember a "go-go danger who has had one of her legs grawed off" in the version of Planet Terror I saw. I will be picking this up but not sure if I should go with the Blu-ray version of Death Proof also since I already have it on HD DVD. I like my things to match.

What footage was added to Death Proof? My issues with Death Proof are my issues with Tarantino in general, which is "sometimes he can let things get just way too talky".

Some of the dialogue was cool, but it just seemed to go on forever without really ever going anywhere. Someone said that was the point, but for me it did detract from the fun.

Totally agree with Josh's review. I saw Grindhouse in the theater and planned to pick it up on dvd when it was released, however I can't imagine watching them separately. Until it's combined into the experience I had at the theater, I can't see much point in buying/watching it again.

Man, I'm really glad I caught Grindhouse at the theater. Looks like it may have been a one-of-a-kind experience. I really enjoyed seeing the movies, but they aren't movies I'd buy, especially Death Proof- It was one of those movies I thought was entertaining but would be really boring watching a second time.

Dammit.

Do you have any idea how many times I proofread that review, and a stupid typo like that still got through? Ugh. Thanks for catching that. I've just fixed it.

Death Proof has almost half an hour of new footage added, including the lap dance that got lost in the theatrical cut's "missing reel".

Lap dance notwithstanding, if you didn't like the theatrical cut, you probably won't care for the extended cut either. It's even more Tarantino-esque.

i've told myself repeatedly that i will not buy this movie split in two, hopefully i can stick with my convictions, although this way it counts as 2 movies in the collection instead of one

I promised myself I wouldn't buy it unless they released the whole experience as one film, but honestly I'm sick of waiting for the Weinsteins to get their heads out of their asses. I sucked it up and just ordered them after passing Planet Terror on Starz last night. Maybe it's a betrayal of my integrity, but frankly I'm having no fun being one of these people who are miserably waiting for a complete works. All the power to you people waiting for complete Grindhouse and Kill Bill Whole Bloody Affair but I'd rather have something than nothing.

I think Planet Terror stands on its own... foot and gun, quite well. It's a very different type of movie than DP, and I personally enjoyed it much more. It's not like it's not a full length movie, I don't think most people would really care to watch both movies back to back anyway.

Anyway I finally watched the scratch free version last night, and was satisfied as I expected to be from all the previews I've seen. I just wish they would have put that version on the second disc with an HD audio track...

The Weinsteins are stupid SoBs.

I would happily pay double for a Grindhouse release. Instead, now I'll pay nothing for this.

A nice Grindhouse release with the movies on disc one, and all kind of extras, including the scratch-free version, on disc 2.

I don't know how to make them understand, but while I try to figure it out, I'll speak with my money. As in "not spending it".
