Default 'The Neverending Story' (Dutch Import) - High-Def Digest Review

Ken has reviewed 'The Neverending Story.' He loooooooves this movie, but says the Blu-ray is a disappointment. Still, if a domestic release hasn't been announced in the next year, he may have to settle for a Blu-ray that he says has problematic video and audio and no supplements. For the Uber-fan only.

Crap. One of my favorites, and a lousy transfer. Guess I'll wait for a better version down the road. If one never comes, I can pick this one up for less eventually.

I bought it, and I thought transfer was great. I have the standard WB DVD, but this just looked fantastic.

I'll have to admit, the lossy DTS track wasn't at all amazing.

"Remember when children’s films were unexpectedly dark and profoundly deep?"

YES! Thank you for taking notice! And thank you for mentioning NIMH, Watership Down and the Land Before Time. These films, along with The Dark Crystal, The Labyrinth, An American Tail (and any Bluth animated feature), make current children's films (with the exception of Pixar) look terrible. Filmmakers used to understood that children are not stupid and do not need to have seizures in order to enjoy themselves. I was and still am memorized by movies like The Neverending Story, The Secret of NIMH, and The Dark Crystal.

It may not be a great package, but if you like the movie, I think it is well worth it. Who knows how long it will take to come out here.

This was probably my favorite movie as a child. Used to creep the hell out of me. I'll wait for an eventual US release though.

I'm still traumatized by all of these movies!

I think every true children's classic is somehow twisted and disturbed.

That damn horse dying, always got me.

The song was catchy, though. "Never Ending Stooooooooooorrrryyyyyy, aaaahhhhhh".

That was the cut!

What interests me the most is: Does the disc contain the original 102-minute version, or the shorter "international" cut that only runs 94 minutes?

Could anybody who owns the disc please clarify?

I didn't care if it was only slightly better than the DVD, I had to get this when it released. Always brings back fond memories of my childhood, this movie was a regular in my parents VCR machine.

I don't really think twisted and disturbed is the right wording. I think "honest" is more fitting.

Too many crazy Moms and PC Police get in the way now. Nobody wants to challenge the senses, or explore real themes anymore. It's kind of sad...and makes me love every second of my childhood. That's some nostalgia that isn't bullshit.

Heh, I don't remember the movie being held in such high regard, but I guess the sequels are the reason that my image of the films are tainted. Loved how Jack Black was in the 3rd one.
