Default Serenity freezing

I just picked up my copy of Serenity today and found it freezes at chapter 13 at 1:12:54. It's on my PS3 with the latest update, the disc is perfect. I can jump forward to chapter 15, then seems to play normally again. Anybody else have a problem?

Is it recurring, or did it just happen once?

It occurs every time I play it. In the same spot. Maybe back to best buy and see about an exchange but I was curious if anybody else had the problem.

Looked over at AVS, no one reporting any lockups there.... Hopefully just a bad disc, but some over at blu-ray.com are reporting lockups...
I won't have my copy until tomorrow, could try it on the PS3 and on a BD55 and report back, but I'm sure others will respond before that.

I'm having the same issue everytime at the exact same spot as agriebel. Chapter 13 during the reavers scene. It picks up again on Miranda during the hologram after freezing for a while. I am using a ps3.

I will be picking it up tomorrow as well, but will wait to open it until I see if this is a widespread issue. I will be watching it on my PS3 though, so this sucks.

seems like all lockups being reported are PS3 here and couple other sites. I will definitely give it a try on my BD55 tomorrow at the chapter mentioned to check

Yep, same problem on my PS3. Jayne seems so confused about the freeze. Works fine on my Vaio laptop. Related note, the sound is amazing on this movie.

Well I wasn't planning on watching this today, but I decided to pop it into my PS3 after reading these reports.

I'm running a launch 60 GB PS3 with the latest firmware as of Dec. 30th, 2008. Serenity started up fine, and I was prompted to download additional features or something through BD-Live - I told it 'No.' Was surprised to see a language selection screen before the main menu - have never seen that before. Chose English and continued to the main menu. I was able to access the Alliance Database in the Extras menu without trouble (this is reported to be problematic on some forums).

Starting the movie, I skipped ahead to Chapter 13 and watched the entirety of Chapters 13 and 14 - no freezing or other noticeable glitches. I rewound back to 1:12:25 and watched through again to 1:13:00, and again no freezing at 1:12:54 or anywhere else. I finished with a 120x fast-forward through the entire movie - no odd pausing, just a consistent fast forward (an unreadable disc section is normally caught even during a fast forward, so it's a quick if slightly unorthodox test)

With just my testing and the reports of others having problems, I'd say some bad discs are in circulation and you should try to get an exchange at your point of purchase. However, there are some reports of discs freezing in the PS3, but then working in other players, which kind of throws the bad discs theory a bit - especially since the PS3 is normally the most fault tolerant player. It is possible that the issue only manifests on certain versions of the PS3, so someone with a 40 GB or 80 GB PS3 might experience the problem while older 60 GB ones don't - but that also seems remote.

Suggestion: double-check that your firmware is up to date, and attempt an exchange at your point of purchase. Hopefully more information will come out to allow for a more conclusive answer.

Another thought that kind of goes with the last post: Since we all know it comes at around the same part for the people that it happens to, what if you fast forward just ahead of that? I am going to skip ahead to that part when I get my copy tomorrow and see what happens. Thanks for testing your copy, bevil.*crosses fingers*

Trying to back up to the exact spot that the freeze occurs causes another freeze, about the same point that the freeze lets off (hologram scene). Any chance that the software they asked to install is having an adverse effect? I went ahead and installed it and am having this problem, and I am running an older 60gb model. This is the first time I've experienced this problem with any of my Bluray discs. Coincidentally, I was able to play it just fine on my computer.

Try deleting the downloaded info (in the BD Data folder in the Video tab of the XMB), and try again, this time not downloading the data.
