Default 'The X-Files: I Want to Believe' - High-Def Digest Review

Mulder always wants to believe, especially around the holidays. Watch for Josh's review of 'The X-Files: I Want to Believe' on December 24th.

well I can't give a proper review of the movie because after the first 30mins I took the disc out of sent it back to netflix. I just couldn't understand what the heck the point of this movie was.

It shouldn't take more than what 5, 10, 15mins for someone to know if they want to watch the rest of the movie? Even after 30mins I was still going WTF?

I picked this up at Meijer when it first came out for 17.99 (totally mispriced goodness!) I pretty much agree with this review...definitely not the best x-files wise, but with lowered expectations this movie proves better than not having the x-files back on screen.

Bad X-Files is better than no X-Files. Except Space.

I saw this in theaters with my GF and she REALLY enjoyed it, even more than I did.

I thought it was valid, as a X-Files "extended" episode, and it's basically
Spoiler:
a modern day Frankenstein tale. Sure it's cliche, but Frankenstein was never touched on in the series, unlike other famous monsters.

The marketing is what killed it. You don't release anything after The Dark Knight. This would have been perfect for the fall and ESPECIALLY the winter. It's cold outside.

I own both flicks, so I'm happy.

Um... Season 5s The Post-Modern Prometheus did just that.

Still, IWtB is a decent movie. I totally agree with Josh (and Cheez) on this one. Sure, its not great but its pretty okay. I (and just about any other one of my X-files fan friends/family) liked it for what it was.....

I'm with fans that hate this movie, I will agree that it had some decent interactions between Mulder and Scully, but thats where my praise ends. Horrible script, even worse acting, derivative subplots, concept was thought up by a 5th grader... 6 years..... 6 effing years and we get a story about a

stem-cell transvesite and an old pedofile priest stumbling around in the snow.
I'm sorry no matter how much of a fan your are (and I am) that does not do anybody justice.
It bombed, deservedly so and I was one of the few dished out cash for it. wont get me twice, you can believe that

Good review. Count me as one of the few who enjoyed it. This movie is definitely geared towards the die hard X-Files fans. The story wasn't anything special, but Mulder and Scully are back! These two characters, especially Mulder, are why I love the X-Files. The characters of Mulder and Scully are the heart and soul of this franchise. The way they interacted in the movie, it's like the show never ended which brought warm feelings to my heart.

That don't count, it was one of those "spoof" episodes, a good one, but doesn't fit the continuity, "real world" theme. IMO.

excellent review, Josh! I agree 100%, not the best from the duo but Carter was trying something different because I "believe" he took into account that six years have passed since the show's demise.

Fans will be divided (as proven by the response here), but being an X-phile, I appreciate this ending to the series more than the finale episode.

I liked the movie. It basically plays out like a very special episode of The Xfiles and as much a I enjoyed the mythology episodes of the series I liked the fact this film is more grounded in reality (for an Xfiles flick anyway). Heck, even Skinner came back, you gotta like that.

Default Interesting...

It's funny how there are folks here who call themselves die hard fans and loved it, and others calling themselves the same but hated it.

I'm in the latter camp.

I had every single episode taped onto VHS off TV, used to have all the memorabilia, t-shirts, and still have my signed Gillian Anderson photo framed, and a couple of wall plaques, and bought all the retail VHSs as they were released (got the special edition for fanclub members only), all the books (fiction and non-fiction), all the DVDs, all the collector cards, knew at least the first 3 season episode names in order etc.

I hated this movie.

I really liked Fight the Future, and like the reviewer HATED the series final with a passion. Mulder in effect finding God? Get stuffed...

I really hoped this movie would rejuvenate the series, or at least revisit it in a way that 'apologized' for the series final, but I found it totally boring, irrelevant, and (unlike one earlier poster), believe that any X-Files is NOT better than no X-Files at all.

I admit to finding it weird that it's stand-alone, I can't really get past that and still think there should've been SOME calling back to the over-arching mythology of the show. I know they're now talking about doing another final film in 2012 (significant date in the mythology), and I can only hope that they take the criticisms of this film on board.

I also don't think it's just 'I've grown but the series stayed the same' like many said about those who hated the newer Star Wars (I disagree there too - the new ones are utter rubbish and much more kiddy-friendly and CG-heavy than the originals, though the latter being really a sign of the times more than a mistake on Lucas's part) - it sorta sticks out like a sore thumb... after all this time we come back to our favourite duo, and they're just plodding along, and reunite somewhat for some out of the blue case that doesn't really do much for anything or anyone.

Total meh. I even considering turning it off when watching it, which I rarely ever do, least of all with X-Files :'-(

I'm glad to see a good review for this movie.

While it wasn't anything spectacular, I felt that it was a perfectly fine throwback to the 90s thriller that didn't rely on supervillans like many movies do nowadays.
