Default 'Ghost' - High-Def Digest Review

Peter has reviewed 'Ghost.' He's never swooned over this one, but says the film has its fans. This Blu-ray looks and sounds pretty good, with just enough extras to nab a special edition label. Worth a look.

Can't shake the "pottery scene" when I think about this movie. That and Whoopi

From the review:
Quote:
It doesn't help that much of the film looks like it was shot through gauze, and the now-dated CGI effects suffer from blurriness.
Except that it isn't CGI!

It's all blue-screen, rotoscoping, hand-drawn animation, optical composites.

Old-school visual effects by ILM, which in 1990 was pretty impressive.

I have always consciously avoided watching this. Due to the psychological trauma I suffered at the hands of 'Dirty Dancing', the sight of Patrick Swayze gives me an ulcer.

Heavily into necrophilia - still enjoying 'dead' HD DVDs.

The scene with two Patrick Swayze's on the screen at the same time is a good arguement against cloning.

I actually really enjoy this flick.

Call me crazy...but itjust has the right amount of entertainment.

It ain't high art, but it passes the time.

I remember thinking just the floating penny was an awesome effect.

I think this is a good movie and it was certainly a popular movie. I won't buy it but I am sure it will sell about like most other 20 year old catalog titles. I don't think I will ever watch the film again, I have seen it once and that was enough. There are way too many other films I want to see a first time to work my way down to watching that one a second time.

Minor nit on the review... Demi Moore isn't introduced as Molly, so when the review discusses Moore's character in the 4th paragraph, it can be a little confusing as to the reference.

Otherwise good review. I liked the movie, but Goldberg added some sillyness that detracted away from the film.

You think that was impressive?

The "shadows" that take the bad guys away were actors in costume who were shot stop-motion (think Peter Gabriel in "Sledgehammer") but they had to move their entire bodies at one still frame at a time for hours on end!

This was done to make them seem even more unworldly.

Checked it out this past weekend and no it won't remind you of a high-def experience. Don't get me wrong, it's not bad, it's just not good. It's not noticable over an upconvert but that's just the way the film was shot.

Audio was pretty much uneventful either.

Tried to watch 2 of the featurettes on the making of the film but they wouldn't play with Video on my BH 200.

I never really liked this movie as much. Its an okay time pass. As far as the BD goes, I might rent it at best.
