Default 'Pride & Prejudice (1995)' -- pre-release thread

A&E has announced the acclaimed BBC miniseries for Blu:

http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/prideprejudice1995.html

No tech specs yet, but it's not billed as a special edition, so extras will likely be slim.

MSRP for the two-disc set is $49.95, and street date March 31.

This was shot in 16mm, so I am not expecting much, but anything will be better than the awful washed-out look of the previous DVD release.

I've never seen, the series...looking forward to watching it with my girlfriend. We both love the Keira Knightly version, and have been meaning to watch this version for some time. I know the Blu probably won't look amazing, but it'll still be better than the DVD.

This came out in the UK in september, and is region free.

The BBC created a new 16:9 1080p master from the original negatives and it looks excellent, despite it being originated on 16mm film.

I have the UK version, but the US version should be identical.

It is on 2 x BD50 and video is AVS and audio is DTS-HD HR 5.1.

The first thing you notice after watching the DVD version is how bright the colours are on the blu-ray version. BBC have done a fantastic restoration from the original negatives (as explained in the extras) and looks vastly superior to the DVD version. There is some grain in the image but I am glad they left it in (DNR be gone). The image is also very sharp, its amazing how much detail the super 16mm negatives can contain.

It also contains 2008 interviews with director and producers.

Overall you wont be dissapointed.

Nothing to add re the disc, just wanted to add a thumbs up (or should that be a sizzler!) to the previous poster, for naming himself after the best computer magazine of all time

are you sure it's region free? amazon.co.uk says it is region 2, but i guess since it is a blu-ray it should be region B, right?

I'd rather have the recent Keira Knightley version. Hopefully Universal is working on it and Atonement.

I can't see on the back where it says what region it is. It doesn't have those hexigon region symbols. I am certain it is region free.

This will be a Day 1 purchase for me. I thought it was the best version I have seen of the the tale, and Colin Firth was the best Darcy. I have fond memories of this title because I saw it with a lady I love.

Seriously. WE NEED MORE KEIRA KNIGHTLEY. I almost went HD DVD just for these movies. Dammit Universal, good to see you're working on Bourne but hurry up with Simon Pegg / Keira Knightley movies!
