Default 'Serenity' - High-Def Digest Review

Peter's review of 'Serenity' has been posted. He says this is a fun flick. This Blu-ray improves on the previous HD DVD, with equally strong video, but superior audio and supplements. Worth a look.

Oh yeah, can't wait. This was a blind buy for me regardless. A good review only wets my appetite more. Firefly looked and sounded great on Blu. Serenity will get heavy play in my rotation. Can't stop the signal !!!

A majority of the content listed as "HD Bonus Content" appeared on the Collector's Edition DVD.

The U-Control and BD-Live stuff is, yes, exclusive (obviously) but, all the other video based material appeared on the 2-disc CE DVD release from Aug 2007. Yes, the material is new for HDM but its not really exclusive....

Also, the 'Introduction with Whedon" is old, old, old. I saw it as part of a sneek peek promo before some movie that I saw "all that long ago" at an Edwards Cinema back in 2005 (its what made me aware of the movie and the series) not to mention it appeared on the original DVD, HD DVD, the CE DVD and now its been ported to BD.

This movie is amazing. It's amazing that josh managed to create a movie that would be fun and interesting to watch with NO knowledge of the show. 4/5 stars if you've never seen the tv show. 5/5 if you have.

Film has a lot more power and interest especially with the reavers if you've seen the TV show.

I would like to know more hard info on the video transfer itself. I am buying it no matter what of course but would like to know for instance if its the same transfer with more space or just the same transfer with the same space.

As long as Universal hasn't done one of their BD catalog DNR/EE jobs on this I'll rebuy this on Blu without hesitation. But I'm definitely waiting for some screenshots; hopefully Xylon will do a comparison. Some downrezzed 720P shots I saw on some other site looked promising, so fingers crossed.

I would love to see a accurate review of the HD DVD sound vs the DTS-MA. The HD's sound was supposed to transparent to the Studio sound. The rule of thumb (for most reviews) seems to be it if has a MA track it has to be better or have an edge.

If every other Universal title is to be used as a reference, this will have been re-encoded for BD spec.... but at the same time, even with more bitrate/room to breathe it probably won't really matter PQ-wise (as has been proven with almost every Universal "upgrade" to BD.)

As a matter of fact, if this was re-encoded (it should have been but not having the disc I don't really know) I hope it looks the same as the HD DVD (which was near reference) and hasn't been slightly DNRed like a few other Universal catalogs.

With the extras and bump in sound, this will be first universal HD double dip, and this flick deserves it. It was criminal how I dissed it like so many others and then was converted

IMO this series is the biggest "what coulda beens" ever....

The cover's better than the HD DVD too... *looks from left to right on the verge of a triple dip* Nooooooo Must wait for it to appear in a sale and also see what Universal EU side do with the disc

From watching this and Firefly I would have to say that Whedon is more likely a Han Solo fan than Skywalker. I've always desribed the show or movie as a chronicling of what else Han Solo did in his life.

I think he went with Luke instead of Han as Han was selfish and usually thought of himself first.
