Default 'Mamma Mia! The Movie' - High-Def Digest Review

Peter has reviewed 'Mamma Mia!' Despite loving ABBA, he hated this movie. Still, acknowledging its almost $600 million box office take, this one has its fan, who should be happy with the Blu-ray, which features good video and audio, and a ton of extras. Fans should be happy, for others, this is a case of good disc, bad flick.

Ah come on the movie wasn't so bad to score a "1 star", but it is the worst musical I've seen though. What makes it up are the wonderful location shots, and lots of the actors overshining on their singing level, and did I mention the classical songs? However, many of them were a complete offense to the ABBA songs, as most of them were portrayed as sexual theme. (Dancing Queen, Does Your Mother Know, etc.)

You have to give this movie credit - going up against TDK, the most hyped film of the year, it's a miracle this movie made money at all, much less placed in the top ten highest grossing films of 2008.

even with/without TDK on the same weeks of release, it was still going to cash in the major bucks. Fans of the broadway show + the billion ABBA fans = Highest grossing musical of the year.

I watched this over the weekend and actually thought it was okay. It was better than the much prasied "Hairspray" in my opinion. I'm really not into musicals so I do not know what to look for, but the film was lively and colorful. Meryl did a very good job vocally and Amanda was adorable.

I can only recommend 'Mamma Mia!' to those who would enjoy hearing the band's music badly sung, and accompanied by dumb dancing and a totally stupid story. If that sounds like a great time to you, then by all means enjoy this Blu-ray.
Ouch! That's Gotta Hurt.

In my opinion, Amanda Seyfried is the only actress who made it even remotely tolerable, for a one time watch anyways.

"I wanted to like 'Mamma Mia!' I really did. But this film is impossible to embrace because of it's incompetent. "

Irony is a wonderful thing.

My wife really wanted to see this, and I was planning on buying the BD for her, but I think this will be a rental...

I personally don't think it was that bad, but that's just my opinion. Video and audio are also a bit low imo. I personally give video and audio a 9/10 for each.

Here's a second opinion:

Absolutely fucking dreadful film with an atrocious, career-low performance from Pierce Brosnan.

I wouldn't have even given it 1 star.

One thing I can say for Peter in his review...he made me LOL!

I plan on watching this tomorrow night. I enjoyed the stage play so I'm hopeful it isn't as bad as Peter says.

I thought it was decent. Come on...you know what you are getting when you buy the ticket on this particular movie. Have to enjoy musicals to enjoy this one. That said..I wont be buying it,lol.

Default seriously???

From the review...

"...But unlike musicals-to-movies before it that flopped (the dreadful 'The Producers' comes to mind), the big-screen version of 'Mamma Mia!...."

You pratt!!! the film version of The Producers musical was fantastic!! I still have no desire to see Mamma Mia! because of the review.... but god damn, Don't insult the Producers!!!

I always tune in to The Producers when It comes on TV and i also through the DVD in for a spin ever few months. It never ceases to entertain, great songs, great direction, great performances. I desperately want a Blu-Ray release....

Jeezus...

Your opinions are dreadful.
