Default 'Casablanca' - High-Def Digest Review

Peter has reviewed 'Casablanca.' The movie is a true classic. This Blu-ray features a stunning remaster and tons of extras. A must own and highly recommended.

even though it's almost cliched to say--this movie probably is my favorite film, and I am thrilled that it is finally on blu.
I do think Warner should have included the option to buy a standalone version like the nice people in France can.
I will get this "super" version, but I want a single disc copy also with the case art of the HD DVD.

is this disk any different than the HD-DVD release? No commentary about how Blu is better or anything, just straight up is there anything different to it.

the packaging is an absolute shame, though. from everything i've seen, i'm going to have to wait for a standalone release. i LOVED the HD DVD, but i don't want some ALBATROSS in my collection.

at least I am Legend and 300 had normal releases before they got their new packaging and releases.

how sad is it that we are forced to shell out 50 bucks to own this on bluray, iam really not likeing these 50 dollar sets that are being released with out the option of just buying the standalone disc. atleast christmas story reissue gave that option. i am guessing wizard of oz will be 50 bucks as well next year. sucks

I'm bummed that it doesn't include the 5.1 surround mix, I should have gotten the HD-DVD when I had the chance.

Oh well, my copy arrives in the morning. This was a blind buy.

I have no problem with deluxe edition sets, without the option of a standalone. Hell, if Wanted didn't have a standalone, I would have bought the set. I just happened to be strapped for cash when I put in the order for the standalone.

No worries.

There is no 5.1 mix, the HD DVD also had the 1.0 mono track. I will not be buying this until they have a $20 non-collector's edition like they should have had on day one. I saw how big the box was in the store and I don't have room for something that big unless it has multiple movie (Dirty Harry for example).

haha, did Peter mess up that review? Sheesh. Tell me he did, so I don't feel too bad.

EDIT--I re-read that, and I apologize, Mr Bracke, my reading comprehension sucks.

i didn't buy this because of the packaging. It sucks that they are going the same route with The Notebook. Another film that i will not buy due to packaging. I can deal with the digibooks which I hate as well, but this is just pointless to me.

I can deal with the packaging. It's not as horrible as the James Bond Collection.

Does anyone have a Warner Bros discount code for December? I'll pick this up if the price is right after discounts.

Glad to see it's a top-notch release. Now if only I could find it in a Canadian brick-and-mortar store.

*sigh*

Between this and The Third Man, looks like I'll be giving the American dollar a bit of a boost again...
